Lost Forrest Newsletter - Fall 2016

President's Message

by Jason Wickline

Hi, Neighbors,

It's hard to believe that the holidays are almost upon us, especially with the warm weather that continues to linger.  I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable summer and that your fall is off to a good start.  I look forward to seeing many of you at the Halloween Party today at 5:30!

We had another successful pool season, and I'm pleased to report that 2017 will be even better!  The board has selected United Pools as our new vendor for pool maintenance and lifeguards.  United will also offer our residents swim lessons and water aerobics - look for details in the spring!

Our only major capital project this year was the replacement of the retaining walls within the Tabby Walk stormwater detention area and the surrounding fencing.  This project was completed this past spring.  James Schwebel continues to stay on top of routine maintenance items throughout the community to keep Lost Forrest looking its best!

A few quick reminders:
  • Speeding – While many residents do a great job in this area, we still have reports of folks speeding throughout Lost Forrest, including teenagers AND adults.  As you know, the posted speed limit is 25 MPH, but given the narrow width of our streets coupled with hills, curves, children, and pets, I would strongly encourage everyone to keep their speed under 20 MPH.
  • Parking – PLEASE continue to do your best to keep your vehicles in your garages and driveways.  I received feedback from a local Realtor that a home sale almost fell through due to the buyer's concern about the number of vehicles parked on our streets.  Street parking is unsightly, creates a potential safety hazard, and has the ability to negatively impact our property values.
  • ACC – Any modification whatsoever to the exterior of your home or your property, whether visible from the street or not, must be approved in advance by the Architectural Control Committee.  Requests should be submitted online, at least 7 days in advance, via the ACC page on our website.
  • Signs - A reminder that our covenants restrict yard signs, including political signs.
  • Website – The Lost Forrest website is a great resource for information regarding our community.  There is a Quick Links sidebar for the most-accessed resources, an Upcoming Events sidebar, and our covenants and by-laws are available by clicking Documents under the Info menu item.  If you don’t recall your login ID or password, just click Lost Password in the Resident Login box.
  • Nextdoor - Our nextdoor.com site has also become a great resource for community discussion.  As Nextdoor has become more popular, the posting volume has increased - please remember that you have the ability to reduce the frequency or turn OFF emails and other notifications for the categories that are not of interest to you - just go to the Settings area on the website or within the app.
As always, thanks for doing your part by maintaining your homes and properties to ensure that Lost Forrest continues to live up to its reputation as one of the best communities in East Cobb.  Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any questions or concerns.

Best wishes,

Jason Wickline

Treasurer's Report

by Jim Hopkins

Almost through the end of 2016, Lost Forrest has had another good year. 180 of 181 homes have paid their 2016 dues – 1 holdout. Historically we have collected 100% of dues and will again when this house sells. Regarding the financials, we are on budget for the year. YTD there have been 6 home sales in our neighborhoods with 2 more to close this month. As always, the Board is working hard on maintaining the status quo, even making betterments so that Lost Forrest remains a great place to live. If anyone has questions or wants additional information, feel free to contact a Board member or myself.

External Affairs & Pool

by James Schwebel

External Affairs has been busy keeping Lost Forrest a beautiful subdivision to live in. Our Fall flowers have just been planted and our landscapers are getting ready to pick up all of the fallen leaves. Many of our trees in the common areas had become overgrown. They were getting injured every time large trucks would drive through the Park. We had a company come out to trim the trees, removing many of the low branches. In the next couple of months, we will be doing another pine straw treatment throughout the subdivision.

We had a very successful pool season and our pool is now covered and ready for the Winter. We are already preparing for our 2017 pool season. After several meetings the board has decided to switch vendors for next year. We have hired United Pools for our maintenance and lifeguard coverage. United Pools has a lot to offer Lost Forrest. They are able to provide private and group swim lessons for our residents. They also offer aqua aerobics classes for those interested. All scheduling is done by United Pools and all residents will have to do is contact them.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the pool or any external affairs issues, please let me know.

Thanks,

James Schwebel

Tennis Tidbits

by Teresa Roberts

Fall Alta season was a wonderful experience at Lost Forrest this year. The weather was sunny and pleasant. No rain delays or make ups for many teams. We are so proud of the Ladies B team - they are going to playoffs!! Congratulations! Cheer them on to victory and hope they can continue on to City finals. Go Lost Forrest!

We have many groups using the courts for practice and private drills. Please continue to take away the trash that you and your group bring in and lock the gates behind you.

This winter there will be 3 teams playing out of Lost Forrest. One Ladies USTA on Tuesday mornings, one Saturday afternoon at 1:30 and a mixed doubles team on Sundays at 1:00.

Please refer to the Reserve My Court calendar to help reduce conflicts.

Enjoy the many holidays ahead.  Get out on the courts and enjoy the gorgeous weather.
