‘Pipeline’ Programs Try to Steer Minority Students to Careers in Medicine

On February 15, 2016, Erica D. Taylor, MD, a hand surgeon in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Duke, was featured in an article entitled, “‘Pipeline’ Programs Try to Steer Minority Students to Careers in Medicine,” published by the Wall Street Journal.

In the article, she talks about how a six-week pipeline program at Duke gave her an idea of what she would eventually experience at Duke’s medical school. “This was the experience that reconfirmed my desire to become a physician,” Dr. Taylor says.

Taylor, MD, will be running a Gladden Society Mentoring Workshop for Medical Students (female and URM) on Thursday, March 3, from 3:30 p.m.- 6:30 p.m., which will be followed by a Medical Student Mentoring Reception from 6:00 p.m.- 7:30 p.m. On Friday, March 4, there will be a Trilogy Breakfast (Gladden Society + Ruth Jackson + AAOS Diversity Advisory Board) from 7:00 a.m.-9:00 a.m. All events will be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Orlando, FL.
