IT IS HARD TO BELIEVE that the end of the semester is just a few weeks away, but commencement is almost upon us. It has been a busy semester with a variety of events from Research Week to UCF Celebrates the Arts. Dale Whittaker was confirmed UCF’s next President and a search has begun for our next provost.
I’m continually inspired by the great work you are doing in the classroom and the lab. From inspiring math students to get creative and think beyond equations to designing video games that help children with prosthetics, you truly make a difference in people’s lives – the real test of research.
As we shift into summer, I invite you to visit with fellow faculty and students and find out more about what kind of research and scholarship is taking place right here.
THE EPA HAS AN EYE on UCF after a group of students created high-tech sponges that repel water and collect oil, a green and cheap way to clean ocean oil spills.
THE OPIOID EPIDEMIC has been portrayed in the media as a largely “white” epidemic, but a UCF study finds this drug doesn’t discriminate.
UCF BIOLOGIST is counting on social power to give declining bee populations a boost by creating an Amazon-like seed distribution system and mobile app.
A NEW NON-INTRUSIVE laser technique could push the frontiers of medical diagnosis, space exploration and even has applications for preventing chemical or biological attack.
KEEPING CHILDREN SAFE from online predators is the goal of parental apps, but UCF researchers found that the effort may do more harm than good.

Postdoctoral students are essential to conducting cutting-edge research. Under the Preeminent Postdoctoral Program (P3), principal investigators can get up to $58,000 over two years to cover salary and benefits. The deadline to apply has been extended to Dec. 1.
