Anthem Covers Diabetes Prevention in California
In July 2016, Anthem Blue Cross of California, one of the largest health plans in the state, began 100% coverage of the National Diabetes Prevention Program (National DPP) lifestyle change intervention for commercial members. “Providing the National DPP lifestyle change program as a covered benefit was a good business decision for Anthem and a great solution to address prediabetes and underlying risk factors associated with it for Anthem clients and members,” said Chris Tompkins, health promotion manager. New National DPP Coverage Toolkit Provides Ready Answers

This online toolkit includes practical and specific information for those interested in providing the National DPP lifestyle change program as a covered benefit. It is designed for visitors to select a pathway to information for Medicaid Agencies, Medicaid MCOs, Commercial Plans, or Medicare Advantage. The National DPP Coverage Toolkit launched during an NACDD General Member webinar on June 22, 2017. MORE

Joanna Craver DiBenedetto Joins NACDD
As a subject matter expert in the field of diabetes prevention, Joanna has promoted the National DPP since 2012. Joanna will provide technical assistance for the National DPP Coverage Toolkit as well as support to the 6|18 selected states and Medicaid agencies as they work toward coverage of the National DPP lifestyle change program. MORE
Meet me in St. Louis . . . at the Chronic Disease Academy!
The invitational, 2017 NACDD Chronic Disease Academy scheduled for September 12-14 in St. Louis gives NACDD State Health Department Members and their selected staff an opportunity to participate in focused learning and professional development. Those unable to attend the conference will be able to keep up with activities by following NACDD on Facebook and Twitter. MORE
Eight States to Host State Engagement Meetings in 2017-2018
NACDD, in collaboration with CDC, has assisted 28 states in hosting State Engagement Meetings and has helped them to develop and implement diabetes prevention action plans to sustain and scale the National DPP. The following states will hold meetings in 2018: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Nevada, North Dakota, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.
New Diabetes Council Leadership Group
Many thanks to all participants in the June election. Congratulations to the new Diabetes Council leaders! We value our Members and encourage your continued involvement with the Diabetes Council. As always, we welcome your input on Diabetes Council activities and ways that we can better serve staff in state health departments who work in diabetes prevention and control. MORE
