Wintery nights and wicked cheer

This is the time when the nights get longer, the weather colder, and good will fills the hearts of all. It's also time to overindulge, overspend and generally, overdo. So be sure to take time for yourself, sit down with a cup of cocoa, and snuggle up with a loved one, or a good book.

And whether you say Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, Blessed Yule, or Happy Kwanzaa, enjoy the season with family and friends!

Don't miss out on these Holiday events!

Favorite holiday recipes

I've never considered myself to be much of a baker. Just ask my husband; I tend to make more of a mess in the kitchen than barrel of monkeys. But around the holidays, Betty Crocker ain't got nothing on me!

During the Decembers of my youth, Mom kept the oven fired up and the whole house smelled like the best Christmas memories. After I moved out, I took over the tradition of going cookie crazy at the holidays and in honor of my mother, I make sure to carve out enough time the first week in December to bake nearly 25 dozen batches.

So, from my home to yours, I share the favorite of both my brother and my husband:

Sugarplums
1 cup margarine
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/8 tsp salt
Hershey's Kisses (unwrapped)

Heat oven to 350 degrees.

Cream together margarine and sugar, then add egg and vanilla. Add in dry ingredients and beat at low speed until blended. Scoop out teaspoon of dough and mold around Kisses, forming a superball sized cookie.

Bake on ungreased pan for 10-12 minutes. Frost to decorate when cool.

**COOK'S TIP**
I have used every kind of Hershey's Kiss known to man and ALL make wonderful centers for these decadent little cookies.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS, ONE AND ALL!

And keep believing in magic!
