Call for 2016 Library Architecture Projects

The February 2017 issue of the ILA Reporter will feature new academic, public, school, or special library building projects completed in 2016. Please send us a brief description of your project, including the following information: Name of architect, type of project (new construction or major renovation), total cost, service population, and name of library director. In addition, please send a quotation from a patron or the public about the project, and two high-resolution photos, one exterior and one interior. Projects will be selected for inclusion based on architectural interest. Contact Bob Doyle with any questions or to submit your library for consideration. See the 2016 issue for examples of previous projects.

ILA Membership Approves Dues Restructure

The proposed restructuring of ILA membership due was approved unanimously at the ILA Membership Meeting on October 19, 2016 during the ILA Annual Conference. The primary goal of the revised structure, developed by a task force and extensively reviewed by the ILA Executive Board, was to simplify and clarify membership categories while preserving revenue, with a longer-term goal of making membership more appealing to a wider base of library professionals and supporters. One of the major changes is to base institutional dues on size of library budget, rather than population served—this was determined to be a more equitable way to address libraries’ ability to pay. In addition, the total number of personal, institutional, and flat rate membership categories was reduced from 47 to 29. The approved schedule will take effect on January 1, 2017, for memberships renewed or begun after that date.
