Every September as kids, we dreaded writing the annual “what I did on my summer vacation” report. Nowadays, we love it - because we spend our summer serving up delicious vacation memories. In this newsletter, we’re sharing some of our favourites from this past summer.
Our franchisees Rick & Brenda Kirkpatrick and their team in Oromocto opened New Brunswick’s first Cheese Curds and Habaneros restaurants in June and July. From day one, Oromoctonians welcomed us with open arms and healthy appetites! The Kirkpatricks pledged $1 to the Oromocto and Surrounding Area Food and Clothing Bank Stuff-A-Bus campaign for every burger sold at their official grand opening on September 12th - and while they sold a whopping 281 burgers that one day, they “tipped” generously and donated $500.

Chef Inspired Catering
After catering to the amazing crowds celebrating Canada 150 at the Halifax Waterfront in early July, our fleet of food trucks headed to the 13th Canadian Scout Jamboree at Camp Nedooae in Elderbank, NS. There, we satisfied the hungry tummies of 5,600 scouts and volunteers with more than 25,000 meals over the course of a week. You can be sure “Be Prepared” wasn’t just the scouts’ motto that week!
Larry Uteck Blvd, Bedford
Construction on the Angus L. Macdonald Bridge between Halifax and Dartmouth has caused its share of headaches for Halifax residents - the very most serious of which, of course, is hindered access to our restaurants in Dartmouth. To make things easier for our friends on the Halifax side of the harbour, this summer we opened a Cheese Curds/Habaneros restaurant in the former ReLiSH location at 507 Larry Uteck Blvd. in Bedford. See below for some news about the strong leadership team heading up this new location.
Construction on our Cheese Curds/Habaneros franchise location in Truro was hectic over the summer, and we look forward to opening by early November. With the physical building nearing completion, we’re now building our team: we’ll be holding a job fair for full- and part-time positions on October 3rd & 4th from 10am - 6pm on location. If you’re interested, please contact Carley at 902-897-9199 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange an interview and avoid the lines. Remember to bring your resume!
We're coming to Sydney, NS!
We announced we’ll be opening our first restaurant in Cape Breton earlier this year, having awarded a Habaneros franchise to local Cape Bretoners Robert and Natalie Miller in Sydney, NS. This will be our first stand-alone Habaneros franchise, and the first time one of our restaurants will be operating in a mall food court. The buzz is already building on this one, and we’re looking forward to bringing our signature flavours to Cape Breton in February 2018 at Sydney’s Mayflower Mall.
Chef Inspired: Feeding Appetites and Communities
If you’ve known Chef Inspired for any time at all, you know that while our business is food, the heart of our success is people.
In our company
As our company grows, we believe in helping our employees grow with it. Over the summer, we were proud to announce the following promotions:
Colby Veinotte is the Chef/Manager of our new Bedford location, after his excellent performance as Sous Chef and Assistant Manager of our flagship Cheese Curds in Woodside.
Ian D’Entremont is the Sous Chef/Assistant Manager of the new Bedford location, following his strong leadership at our busy Burnside location in Dartmouth.
We congratulate Colby and Ian on their new responsibilities, and know the Bedford team will love working with them. Want to know more about the fantastic people behind Chef Inspired? Check out our People of Chef Inspired blog.
In our local and global communities
In July, we donated a total of $300 to Easter Seals Nova Scotia through special promotions we created to celebrate both Habaneros’ 5th anniversary and Food Day Canada. These charity promotions joined others we run throughout the year to assist a number of organizations providing important support for our local communities.
In August, we proudly donated $1000 to support our partner Gordon Food Service’s mission to help Villages of Hope build a Crisis Pregnancy Centre in Zambia, Africa. Our donation will help support 20 GFS employee volunteers as they spend 10 days in Zambia moving moving furniture, beds, linens, and medical supplies into the home.

Coming up next: October Specials *
October brings the return of cozy sweaters, fires in the fireplace, and comfort foods. Our specials this month are:
At Habaneros, the return of our fan favourite Buffalo Chicken Caesar Burrito
And our ever-popular Philly cheese steak burger translated into poutine at Cheese Curds. You’ll want to wipe that drool before it reaches your chin.
October also marks the first time our Oromocto location offers our monthly specials. Whichever location is closest to you, come give our October specials try! *Not yet available at our Larry Uteck Blvd location.
Hot and Getting Hotter
The summer of 2017 will go down in Chef Inspired history as the season our restaurant family grew to include franchisees. What began with Chef Bill Pratt’s dreams, talent, and a single Cheese Curds restaurant only five years ago is now a growing East Coast franchise chain. But a family business we remain: our Chef Inspired family is just bigger and busier now.
Chef Bill opened his first Cheese Curds restaurant at our flagship Dartmouth Woodside location in 2012. In just five years, our family has grown to include:
Seven Habaneros Modern Taco Bar restaurants (the original location at Woodside; one at Truck-Side in Dartmouth; one on South Park St in Halifax; another in Bedford, NS, and one location in Oromocto, NB) A sixth opening in Truro this fall, with a seventh stand-alone Habaneros in the Sydney, NS Mayflower Mall set to open in February 2018
And we’re still growing! We remain focused on quality, fresh ingredients and the warm, friendly local service we’ve become known for - in our corporate stores, in our franchisee locations, and at our food trucks everywhere they travel. We love serving you. Hope to see you soon!
