BUILDING COMMUNITIES
CALLING ALL ADVOCATES

YMCA Advocacy Network - Quorum
We encourage each YMCA Staff, and Policy Volunteer to sign up for the YCMA Advocacy Network Powered by Quorum.

Quorum is a public affairs software platform that enables organizations to launch grassroots advocacy campaigns, manage stakeholder engagement, monitor legislation, social media of public officials, and much more.

With our staff and volunteers registered as YMCA Advocates, it will allow us and Y-USA's Government Relations Office to activate the true advocacy power of the Y when policy or legislation of interest comes up.

As a reminder,  it is important to know who the candidates running for each position are. They could be volunteers, members, or donors.
A normal campaign season will run as followed:

  • May - August: Primary Election, Election Day: August 28
  • August - November: General Election, Election Day:  November 6
For help on this, check out Y-USA Campaign & Elections Do's and Don'ts.
If you have any questions, please contact the Florida Alliance of YMCAs.

Summer Visits
Have you hosted your elected officials for a summer visit yet? The summer months are the perfect time to host your state legislators at your YMCA to highlight programs and grow your relationship. There is more information below from YUSA on engaging your elected officials - but remember to include the following in your visit:

Thank them - for their visit, past support and their service to the communities in their district
Invite them - to any upcoming events at your YMCA
Inform them - let them know of any possible capital improvement needs and provide a one pager of information for them
Ask them - if there is anything you or your Y can do for them

Engaging Elected Officials at Your Y

COMMITMENT TO AMERICA
Y-USA ASSESSMENT UPDATE

YMCA of the USA (Y-USA) President and CEO Kevin Washington recently announced plans to change how Y-USA serves and supports Ys. With his vision to become a world-class national office for a world-class Movement that puts associations at the center of everything we do, Y-USA is evolving our service delivery model based on feedback we received through our comprehensive assessment process.

The goal is to best position the Y to deliver on our Commitment to communities across America. You can expect enhanced communications related to both the Y-USA transition and the Commitment via Executive News, webinars and other channels. During this transition, your Resource Director stands ready to continue to serve you and answer your questions. Read more about the letter about the assessment & plan here.

INSPIRING CHANGE
NATIONAL VOTER REGISTRATION DAY

National Voter Registration Day (NVRD) takes place each year on the fourth Tuesday of September. It's sponsored by the bipartisan National Association of Secretaries of State.

YMCA of the USA has signed on as a partner of NVRD and encourages Ys to hold voter registration drives on or around Sept. 25.
Falling two weeks before the first state registration deadlines for the November election, NVRD is a great day to register new voters and celebrate democracy.

Starting in July you can sign up as an NVRD partner and receive free materials.

A toolkit and resources for local Y participation will also be available in July.

TRANSFORM YOUR GAME
FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES

U.S. Soccer Foundation

Since 1995, the  U.S. Soccer Foundation  has awarded grants to more than six hundred organizations in the United States in support of projects designed to keep children in underserved communities active, healthy, and safe. Urban areas often lack available space for children to play outside. In order to provide an opportunity for all children to play soccer, the foundation has taken on the task of providing children across the nation with places to play.

To that end, the foundation is accepting Letters of Inquiry for its Safe Places to Play program, which provides grants to organizations to help them build or enhance a field space in their communities. Grants of up to $50,000 will be awarded for the installation of field surfaces, lighting, and irrigation for field space in urban settings.

To be eligible, an applicant must apply on behalf of a program or project operating in the U.S., and be a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, school, municipality, college or university, or sovereign tribal nation.

LOIs are must be received no later than September 3. Upon review, selected applicants will be invited to submit a full application by September 28, 2018.

The Green Education Foundation
The Green Education Foundation, in partnership with Gardener's Supply Company, is accepting applications from schools and youth groups for its Green Thumb Challenge.

Through the program, a prize of $500 will be awarded to a school or youth group to advance the sustainability of a successful youth garden program that has impacted the lives of kids and their community. Applicants must submit a chronicle of their project, including photographs and descriptions.

To be eligible, applicants must be a school or youth group with existing garden program involving youth in grades K-12. The program will not consider proposals for gardens that do not yet exist.

Applications due September 30th

Baseball Tomorrow Fund Invites Applications From Youth Baseball and Softball Programs
The Baseball Tomorrow Fund is a joint initiative of Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association.

BTF awards grants to nonprofit organizations involved in the operation of youth baseball and softball programs and facilities. The funds may be used to finance a new program, expand or improve an existing program, undertake a new collaborative effort, or secure facilities or equipment necessary for youth baseball or softball programs. Grants are intended to provide funding for incremental programming and to facilitate youth baseball and softball programs, and not for normal operating expenses or as a substitute for existing funding or fundraising activities.  BTF does not specify a maximum grant award amount.

To be eligible, applicants must be a nonprofit tax-exempt organization involved in the operation of youth baseball and/or softball programs and facilities.

Organizations operating in the U.S. and international locations are eligible to apply.  Due October 1st.
