DAME HANNAHS NEWS
FEBRUARY 2023
Welcome
We have all had another busy month with a wide variety of activities and outings, including a first for our book lovers and a personal best for one of our radio hosts. Our fundraisers and volunteers continue to show dedicated support and we are looking forward to seeing some of our supporters making the most of our forthcoming Will Week. Birthdays and special days continue to bring such joy and celebration to our young people.
Sign up now to Will Week
Dame Hannahs Will Week is nearly here. Make your Will this March with no expensive legal fees, just a donation to Dame Hannahs. If you have children, a partner, own a property, have savings, investments or own a business, you need a Will - you may also recognise that your existing Will needs updating. For one week only, local participating solicitors will waive their entire simple Will-writing fee in return for a donation to Dame Hannahs to help us support our adults with complex disabilities.

Bookworms
Some of the girls have enjoyed visiting the local library recently. They signed up for a library card and took out their first books. Their visits also coincided with National Storytelling Week and they enjoyed reading stories together.

Radio Star
Congratulations to Hannah Lavell who recently reached the highest amount of listeners she has ever had on her radio show! 173 listeners to be exact of which 53 were brand new to the station. Hannah, aka DJ Spinsister, always presents amazing shows on Access All Aerials. Listen to her show at 5pm every Thursday.

Birthday Girls
Sarah, Helen and Emily had a lovely time celebrating their birthdays this month. Their friends and family enjoyed joining in the celebrations too.

Volunteer Recruitment
Our Community Engagement Officer Debbie has been busy recruiting new shop and warehouse volunteers. She recently spent the morning at the DWP in Devonport. We are very grateful to all the new volunteers who have signed up.
Shop visit
Andrew enjoyed visiting our Transit Way shop recently. He was busy doing some shopping and generally helping out.
Seaside Visits
Our young adults have enjoyed exploring Plymouth. There have been several visits to the Hoe and Barbican as well as to the theatre and cinema. And they have also enjoyed fish and chips by the sea at Paignton.
Bushcraft
Our young adults love their bushcraft sessions. Recently Daisy really enjoyed the scavenger hunt outside followed by pebble painting.
Rural Outings
There have been several outings in the countryside including Stover Country Park. Everyone at Dame Hannahs enjoys making the most of the beautiful Devon countryside and there are so many benefits to our young people.
Special Days
We all love celebrating special days. Every week we meet up for Together Tuesday and recently we celebrated Valentine's Day and National Hugging Day!
Car Handover
Our lucky Car Draw winners Matt and Laura travelled from their home in Gloucestershire to Saltash to pick up the Austin 7 from Guy and Eunice. Once again a huge thank you to Guy and Eunice for their very generous donation of nearly £26,500! And congratulations Matt and Laura!
We would like to say a huge thank you to all our volunteers and fundraisers for all their dedication and hard work. If you would like to get involved please contact supportus@discoverhannahs.org
