5 Family-Friendly ways to honor "Get Outdoors Day" this Saturday
1. Folly Beach is the hands-down #1 place to get outdoors this weekend with the family. Make it more enjoyable by:
- Taking less stuff. Try one really early morning with just your family, swimsuits and sandals, and leave everything else in the car. It's awesome.
- Bringing your camp shower (or a few jugs of water) for the car. Park anywhere you like, and access fresh water before you head home.
- Learn to surf with Charleston Surf Lessons.
2. Number two on my list of favorites is a slow-moving creek at sunset. Head to the "secret" landing on the back side of Sullivan's Island if you have your own paddle board or john boat. Join Charleston Outdoor Adventures, on Bowen's Island, for a guided kayak tour or to rent gear.
3. Third choice: any county park, especially if it's a new adventure! Caw Caw Interpretive Center is nice and shady in the summer. Try GEOCACHING in the parks, and suddenly all of your family vacations will have a new twist. Perfect for any age and it's free!
4. I'd be remiss to leave out Charleston's newest all-ages playground: Wild Blue Ropes. I've seen such cool moments happen on the course with campers, and recently got to see a whole family climb together. What a treat!
5. Finally, sit on the porch / deck / backyard / driveway with your family. Use that old swing set / fire ring / horse shoe set you've been neglecting. You don't have to make any plans. Just make sure to breathe deeply.
Enjoy the day! See you outdoors this weekend!
