Hello, hello, hello!

According to Wikipedia, ‘May you live in interesting times’ is an English expression that, although it looks like a blessing, purports to be a translation of a Chinese curse.

Well times are certainly interesting at the moment, and we hope you’re finding them more of a blessing than a curse. Whatever your thoughts on the lockdown have been or are, we’re being eased out of it, and ‘the new normal’ is slowly revealing itself.

But we haven’t addressed any of that in this month’s newsletter, so pull up a chair, grab a brew and have some gentle escapism. We hope you find it interesting.

Branding Part 1
What is a brand and why do voiceovers need one?

If you search google for ‘what is voiceover branding’ you will get a lot of answers. It can be confusing and overwhelming. Voiceover artists know that branding is important, but why? What does voiceover branding do? Why do you need it?

In the first of a series, Helen helps guide you on where to begin building your own brand.

Three Voiceover Studio Bugbears

Rob has visited a lot of voiceover’s studios and he's helped troubleshoot hundreds more remotely. He's seen all sorts of solutions to fitting a broadcast quality studio into limited living space, and a whole bunch of stuff that really shouldn’t work, yet somehow it does. But there are still a few things that make Rob's heart sink every time he encounters them.

Using a Spectral Display to Help You Edit Voiceovers

Monday 29 June
7am PDT / 10am EDT / 00am +1 AEDT
Gravy For The Brain Members: FREE, Non-members: £29
A few audio editors include an option to show your audio by frequency rather than by amplitude. This is known as the spectral view, spectral display or spectagram. What is this and can it be a useful tool to help us edit our audio? Rob will show you a few examples and show you how to use this tool.

Studio Tickling Tour

There are no Studio Tickling Tours on the horizon yet because of, well... you know. But Rob is still tickling studios remotely. If you are having any studio issues feel free to get in touch and we can get it sorted... by the power of Zoom (or maybe Skype, or Greyskull?!)

The Voiceover Chap
Branding & Website Goes Live!

Helen is really really excited about this one!
A new brand, logo and website project for The Voiceover Chap (AKA Liam Gerrard) is ready to show to the world. I'd love to know what you think...
"The whole process of designing and building a website and branding was so much more than I imagined. Helen really takes her time to get to know you and your brand, and nothing is too much trouble. Highly recommended!"
