Welcome to my latest newsletter. I'd love to hear what you think – get in touch here
It's nearly Christmas and many Reception teachers have taught every child to blend. Very well done! This is such a big milestone in a child's life. Blending sounds into words is the most important skill children will learn at school. If they can't blend, they can't learn to read.

If you need us to help you achieve this, book a 'blending Development Day' with your trainer. They will take you through my latest blending steps, tutor your slowest progress children and help teachers practise and 'download' the steps.

Practise, practise, practise

This is how we, as trainers, reach every child. We practise until we know what we're doing, and only then do we teach a child. We avoid practising on children!

     1.    We read and practise each step on the blending document
     2.    We film ourselves on our phones
     3.    We watch our films and check that our steps match the document
     4.    We practise and film again
     5.    We watch our own and each others' training films, for example
            Sarah and Poppy

     6.    We repeat until nailed.

Fred Talk

Using these three Fred Games throughout the day makes a huge difference to children's progress in blending.

Hope all this helps,
Best wishes
