SPIRIT OF JOY LUTHERAN CHURCH HAS RESUMED PUBLICATION AS A MONTHLY NEWSLETTER.  THE NEWSLETTER IS EMAILED ON THE 28TH OF EACH MONTH. PLEASE SEND ANY ITEMS FOR CONSIDERATION BY THE 21ST OF EACH MONTH TO NEWSLETTER@SOJCHURCH.ORG.
MESSAGE FROM PASTOR DAN

It is hard to believe that we begin this month of October and the fall season at Spirit of Joy.  We are moving forward in many areas of ministry.  Thankful for all who signed up to share their gifts in various areas of our church life.  The sign up sheets from the Ministry Faire will continue to be available for you to volunteer over this next month during our fellowship time.
Our Home Groups have begun meeting with a study on the second season of The Chosen.  Bible studies now include our Men's Saturday morning study on the first and third Saturdays, 8 a.m.; our Monday morning study on "A Walk Through the Bible", 8 a.m.; and our Women's Study that will include a book study this fall.  Prayers and Squares will be meeting on Tuesdays at 9 a.m. Our Spirit of Joy Choir meets now each Thursday at 7 p.m.  Kids Klub for children at Spirit of Joy and our community will begin meeting on Tuesday's 3:30-5 p.m.  Our Youth meet each week on Sunday's, 4:30 p.m.  So, as you can see so much is starting up again at Spirit of Joy, and we are filled with gratitude.
Social Ministry is looking at a number of projects for which we can become engaged..  City Hope Ministry, Christmas ministry, God's Work, Our Hands, Open Door Meals...all ways that we can minister to others in our community.
We continue our in person worship along with the live stream each week.  We will be using our gospel liturgy on the First Sunday of each month, with our blended service we have been using this past year on the other Sundays.  We pray that you will stay connected, and find ways to minister to one another, and in doing so,glorify our Lord.
Blessings,
Pastor Dan
SOJ Prayer Saturday

We know how powerful prayer is, but if you are like many it can be hard to devote time out of each week let alone each day to dedicate to prayer and Bible study.

Those of you that heard Pastor’s sermon last Sunday had a chance to sign up to be a personal prayer parishioner for our church.  Thank you! If anyone else wants to join this commitment here is a wonderful opportunity to come together (yet individually) to pray.

To help set aside time in our busy lives SOJ will open our sanctuary one Saturday a month for quiet prayer and/or individual reading.

Our first Prayer Saturday will be October 9th from 10:30 a.m.-12:00 noon.  You may come and go any time we just ask that you enter and leave quietly.

Our goal is to create an environment that will promote prayer and enhance your Bible study.  We will have soothing music playing quietly and candles to light if you wish to honor someone.

Anyone is welcome, so invite family, friends, neighbors, anyone you know who wants a quiet, air conditioned, peaceful place to reflect on God’s Word.

If you have any questions please talk to Jennifer Emerick or Christy Serra.  You can also call the church office at 760-788-7456 or follow our fellowship at fellowship@sojchurch.com

We hope to see you on October 9th!

Youth Activities

I am so excited to be back in creating a consistent schedule for our youth and getting to know more and more of our students in the community.

Every Sunday morning for the next five weeks we will be having our first "semester" of confirmation for students 8th-12th grade. Our class is at 8:30 a.m. before our church service at 9:00 a.m. If you have any questions or would like to get involved don't hesitate to reach out.

Our Sunday night youth group activities are well underway for the fall as well. 6th-12th graders are all welcome to join us for that. We meet every Sunday from 4:30-6:00 p.m. at Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church. I encourage all students to come and bring there friends for games, fellowships, and snacks!

I am continuing to look to update our youth and family contact information. Forms for that are located at the church or on the church website. I also have sign-ups for parent and member volunteers as well.

Blessings,
Randi-Kate Canoy Suhr

Home Groups Do Season 2 of The Chosen

The Chosen is a the first crowd-funded, multi-season, episode-based portrayal of the life of Jesus as seen through the eyes of those chosen by Jesus and others who met him along the way.

This series is based on the true stories of the gospels, but the writers and director dig deeper into the disciples by creating plausible back stories for each. Through the magic of their art, the writers and actors allow us to see and experience Jesus in a way that is more personal, intimate, and immediate than in any previous Jesus movie you've seen. At the same time, all biblical and historical context and any artistic imagination are designed to support the truth and intention of the Scriptures.

Last spring our Home Groups viewed and discussed Season One, which introduced Jesus and the calling of his initial disciple. It was a popular session, and many members requested that we do Season Two.

During September we began Season Two of The Chosen, which focuses on the beginning of Jesus' public ministry and what happens as word of his ministry begins to spread.

You can freely watch both seasons by clicking here
. You can also download The Chosen smart phone app that allows you to cast the stream to your TV or streaming device

Blessings, and Shalom!
