eNews Update
January 6, 2021
We begin a New Year, 2021....and with this New Year we pray for God's blessing in your lives.  God gives us hope for our future, and with a community of believers at Spirit of Joy, we can move forward together.  "We may not know what the future holds, but we know Who holds the future." In these difficult times, I hope that if there is a need for prayer, or conversation that you would to let us know so that we can minister to one another.
We will continue our worship each Sunday, in person, on the church property at 9am.  Each week we will live stream the service.  We are so grateful for all who continue to help each week to make our worship possible on the land.  We pray that it is a time that helps you stay connected to your church family.  Each first and third Sunday we will have prepackaged communion available in person.  For those watching at home, plan to have your communion elements ready for those designated Sundays.  Children's packages are available each week in worship, with weekly bulletins and other items for the children.
Home Groups will begin the week of January 10th.  The groups will be studying the Book of John.  Each group is doing their time together differently, from Zoom meetings to meeting in the backyard.  We are thankful for all of our leaders who are helping us with this vital ministry.  Bible Study on Monday morning is in person, 8am.  Men's Study on the 1st and 3rd Saturday each month is also in person.  Prayers and Squares meets each Tuesday and others are invited to share in this ministry.  We have a maximum capacity of 8 in the current meeting area.  Youth ministry continues, and is growing, as they meet each Sunday at 5:30pm in the Stemper backyard.  Devotions each week are available through the Our Daily Bread app, or the booklets that we have on the table each week.  Thursday live stream music worship with Bryce and Britany continues each week at 6pm.  Plan to share in our ministry at Spirit of Joy as we move forward in this New Year.
We thank you for your year-end giving, and we pray that as we begin this New Year that you will continue your commitment for the financial well-being of Spirit of Joy.

Gospel of John with Tony Evans

Where do you turn when the world around you grows dark? In this study of the Gospel of John, Dr. Tony Evans encourages us to turn to Christ by reminding us of the two purposes for the beloved disciple’s book—that we would believe in Jesus and find life in his name.

Despite what our culture may argue, there is only one hope that is truly trustworthy and that is our savior, Jesus Christ. So join Tony for this twelve-session series that will draw you back to the essential truths of our faith and the life found in our king.

Session 1a goes from January 10 to Feb 18.
Session 1b schedule is to be determined.

Please go to http://sojchurch.com/homegroups/ for  complete details and signups, including a video preview of the series.

All things were created through him,
and apart from him not one thing was created
that has been created.

BUILDING COMMITTEE REQUEST

Your SOJ Building Committee continues to meet via Zoom and is diligently pursuing alternative solutions for our church. At this time, we need help with several tasks. Volunteers are needed for the following:
  • ORANGE FENCING:  Some strong people are needed to fix the orange fencing on the property. It needs to be pulled at the top and use wire to attach it to the metal posts. We need help keeping that orange fencing tight. The winds pull it down.  The county requires we protect that area from foot and auto use.
  • TREE REPLANTING: There several dead trees around the perimeter that could be removed and replaced by those trees in wooden boxes. Those trees are located toward the center of the property. We do not have trash pickup, so be prepared to take your trash with you.
  • ADOPT-A-BIOSWALE:  Here’s an idea for some family time out in the fresh air. You can adopt a tree or a bioswale and be responsible to keep it clean, weed free and “happy”.
  • HELP MOVING TO STORAGE:  SOJ has some big heavy AC units that need to be moved from a residence to a storage space. Volunteers are needed to assist. If anyone has a truck with a tailgate lift, please contact the church.  The date in January is TBD so call the church to be on the call-list for the move.
  • PROPERTY MANAGER: We also need someone to help “manage” the property. We need someone to “keep an eye” on the property. Someone to drive by and check the lock and gate, etc. frequently.

Please contact the church office to let us know of your interest:  (760) 788-7456

In him was life, and that life was the light of men. That light shines in the darkness,
and yet the darkness did not overcome it.
John 1:4-5
We are so thankful that we are able to gather in the back room of our church facility for meetings, Prayers and Squares, and Bible Studies!  Each group will be able to have a maximum of 8 persons at this time.  Everyone will receive a temperature check and be asked to wear a mask.  Each group meeting will be asked to use the cleaning agents available in the back room for cleaning after each gathering.  We look forward to having our gatherings, and ask that everyone follow the safety guidelines that have been in place at Spirit of Joy since we began our worship together on the church building site.
Safety Procedure for Worship
We encourage your arrival between 8-8:45am for set up.  Everyone is encouraged to wear masks on entry and departure on the church property.  Bring your own chairs, pop-ups, umbrellas, and bottled water.  To insure your safety we will have a table with prepackaged communion (1st and 3rd Sunday each month), bulletins (also a digital bulletin is available on your electronic devices), and temperature check.  Please practice social distancing of at least 6ft of separation per family unit.  Trash cans are available to dispose of all trash upon leaving.  If for any reason you are not feeling well, at higher risk, or uncomfortable with attending, we invite you to enjoy the service live-streamed.  If you prefer staying in your car, there will be a designated area for you to do so.
