MESSAGE FROM PASTOR DAN
It is hard to believe that we are already beginning this month of September together.  We are thankful that we are able to worship in person each Sunday in our worship center, and that we are also able to live stream each week for those who are unable to be with us.
As we look to the month of September, Rally Day will be held on Sunday, September 12th, 9 a.m.  Come share in our worship, children's church and Sunday School.  We will also have a Ministry Faire, with all of the ministries at Spirit of Joy represented.  We hope that you will prayerfully take the time to discern what areas of the church you would like to serve.  How important it is for all of us to find ways in which we can volunteer and serve our Lord in the church.
Various ministries will have their start up for the fall too: Spirits of Grace, Prayers and Squares, Home Groups, Bible Studies, Youth and Children's ministry....a great time for us to lift up all that God is doing in this place we call Spirit of Joy.
As we shared at our congregational meeting, God continues to unfold His purposes for us in this community of Ramona.  We can trust that our Lord has great opportunities and possibilities for our presence here.  May we work together with diligence and perseverance to be all that our God would like us to be in this place today.

Blessings,
Pastor Dan
God's Work Our Hands . . .
Being of Service to the Community

There is always something for which to be grateful.  Repeat that to yourself.  There is ALWAYS something for which to be grateful.  It has probably been a struggle to remember that the last 18 months.  We have all been through some tough days...and weeks...and months.  But sometimes, all it takes to make the day a little brighter is to remember to practice gratitude.
A great way to practice gratitude is to recognize your own talents and blessings and use those to help those less fortunate than yourself.  In past years, our church family has gathered together as one and been commissioned to go out and serve the community of Ramona in an event called God's Work, Our Hands.  We are the embodiment of Christ Our Lord being of service to the community by mending fences, trimming trees, painting, cleaning up our roads, and showing our appreciation to our First Responders. These are just a few of the services we have been able to do in the community.
Last year, things looked a little different as the pandemic kept us from gathering in large groups.  Things are still in a state of uncertainty this year, but the Spirit of Joy Social Ministry Task force is working on ways we can still be of service to the community, even if it doesn't look like it has in years past. Watch for future announcements and newsletter items about events in the fall.  If you have a passion for this type of ministry, please come see us about being part of the task force during signups on Rally Day.  Members of all ages welcome!   We can all do our part. No act of kindness or service done in the name of Christ is ever too small.  May God Bless you all!

Youth Activities

I can't believe that we have already entered the month of September and are starting up our fall programming. I am excited to get into a routine here at Spirit of Joy with all of our youth activities. We had some great activities over the course of the month of August! Including our Service Day at the Frosted Faces Foundation.

Sunday, September 12th will be the start up of our weekly Youth Group. It will be open to both Middle School and High School students. Youth group will be held at SOJ starting at 4:30pm and ending at 6:00pm. I encourage all the youth available to come and to bring their friends as well.

This month we will also start up our confirmation programming.  The structure of confirmation will be a little different then it has been done in years past. All students who have not been confirmed in their faith starting from those in 8th-12th grade are welcome to join in on the confirmation classes this year. We will have six weeks of confirmation courses in the fall (a fall semester) and then will do a second semester in the spring for another 6 weeks. Students will then be confirmed in the spring if they feel they are ready.
Our first confirmation class will begin Sunday, September 19th at Spirit of Joy. Time is to be determined, but will be announced later on!  Contact me if you are interested in beginning your confirmation journey!

I look forward to growing in faith with all of the students this fall!

Home Groups Do Season 2 of The Chosen in September

The Chosen is a the first crowd-funded, multi-season, episode-based portrayal of the life of Jesus as seen through the eyes of those chosen by Jesus and others who met him along the way.

This series is based on the true stories of the gospels, but the writers and director dig deeper into the disciples by creating plausible back stories for each. Through the magic of their art, the writers and actors allow us to see and experience Jesus in a way that is more personal, intimate, and immediate than in any previous Jesus movie you've seen. At the same time, all biblical and historical context and any artistic imagination are designed to support the truth and intention of the Scriptures.

Last spring our Home Groups viewed and discussed Season One, which introduced Jesus and the calling of his initial disciple. It was a popular session, and many members requested that we do Season Two.

So beginning the week of September 19, we begin Season Two of The Chosen, which focuses on the beginning of Jesus' public ministry and what happens as word of his ministry begins to spread.

You can freely watch both seasons by clicking here
. You can also download The Chosen smart phone app that allows you to cast the stream to your TV or streaming device

Blessings, and Shalom!
