Advent, Christmas Plans and More
We begin our Advent season together with so many wonderful plans for this time of year in the church.  On December 5th we will plan to have Advent worship, a brief congregational meeting, and a wonderful catered brunch for our Christmas Gathering.  As part of our gathering we are inviting everyone to share in the hanging of the greens....decorating the church for Advent and Christmas...and a visit from Santa for the children.  On Sunday, December 12th we come together to worship in this Advent time..  December 19th will include a service of carols and special music for Christmas from our Spirit of Joy Festival Choir.  Following the service our pray-ers are invited to pray in a setting of music, Christmas decorations, candlelight, and a quiet atmosphere.  This year we will be having  7 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. Candlelight Christmas Eve Services.  The services will include, special music, favorite carols, Holy Communion, harpist, and candlelighting ceremony.  Plan to make your worship experience a true commitment during this time of welcoming the Christ child into our lives.

Blessings in this Advent time,
Pastor Dan
Your Annual Commitment-Ignite Your Generosity

This year our theme is Ignite Your Generosity.  We are thankful for those who have made their commitment for the coming year.  We encourage those who worship in person, and those who live stream, if you have not yet made your commitment please plan to do so soon.  We are counting on the entire congregation to be ready for what God has in store for us as we embark on a new and exciting path in the new year.
Weekly Events:
Social Ministry Update-Helping Others in God's World

This is a busy time of year for Social Ministry. There are a lot of opportunities to get involved and spread Christ's love (along with a little Christmas cheer) to the community of Ramona and far, far beyond.

Open Door Meals:  November saw another Open Door Meal successfully in the books.  Randi-Cate and the youth group (along with some parents) provided a delicious Sloppy Joe Meal and fellowship at The Grange.  This was only the third week the Grange had been open again for sit-down meals since the start of the pandemic, so it was a great opportunity for the youth to not only serve, but spend some time those who came to have dinner. It was a great experience for all.  Our next opportunity to serve will be in February, so watch the newsletter for sign-ups to help out.

Operation Christmas Child:  Thank you all so much for responding to the call to prepare Christmas shoeboxes for Samaritan's Purse' annual event.  I delivered at least 20 boxes from our church, and I know several of us built boxes online.  Your willingness to share your gifts to bring joy to a child is amazing!

Food/Toy Drive:  We are in the middle of our collection of food and toys for the Ramona Food and Clothes Closet's Share Your Holiday Program.  The foods requested are the following canned goods:  ham, meats, fruit, green beans, corn, cranberries, yams, cream soups and broth, along with boxed mashed potatoes, stuffing, cereal, biscuit/muffin mix, canned/boxed milk, gravy, and peanut butter. While these items are used for holiday meal boxes, any other non-perishable items are welcome to help restock the community food pantry.  For the toy drive, any new, unwrapped toy, puzzle, game, book...would be great. The last day of collection is December 10.  Please bring your items to church and place them in the bin in the sanctuary, or drop it off at the church office during business hours, and I will get them to the Food and Clothes Closet.  Will and I took a carload of your donations over already, and they were all so appreciative.

Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services (LIRS):  Afghan refugees and allies need our help. For two decades, the U.S. government worked with hundreds of thousands of Afghan allies to serve the U.S. mission as interpreters, translators, cultural advisors, drivers, NGO employees, human rights activists, and more. Because of their service to the U.S. mission, our allies and their families soon became the targets of anti-American violence. Through Operation Allies Refuge, the U.S. has evacuated more than 100,000 of our Afghan allies—but tens of thousands remain in harm’s way. We must continue to protect and advocate for those at risk, including translators, human rights activists, journalists, LGBTQIA+ people, and religious and minority groups. As a resettlement agency, LIRS and our partners stand ready to welcome our Afghan neighbors and their family members and to continue advocating for those left behind.  Please follow this link to see how you can get involved.    Watch the bulletin and this newsletter for more info.

I wish you all a blessed Christmas Season.  Please let me know if you want to get involved in the social ministry task force!

"Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you.  Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other. And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone. Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else."  1Thessalonians 5:12-15
