Educating the World’s Toughest Students

Dear <<First Name>>,

I am moved to share with you the harrowing but incredibly inspiring stories of Mahmoud, Majed and Mohammad, three amazing University of the People students who reveal what it’s like to study under siege in Eastern Ghouta—"Hell on earth," as it has been described by the UN secretary general. Their stories appeared in a range of international media, including
CNN, BBC, ABC, Aljazeera, as well as Italian, Thai and Somali news outlets, among several others.

We are humbled by their steely determination in the face of unimaginable challenges: with scant access to electricity and internet connections, they not only fight to stay alive but to continue their studies and safeguard their hopes for a better future. These are just three out of over 600 Syrian students enrolled at UoPeople, half of whom are still in Syria. We are proud that our university has accepted more refugees than any other. Given the resources, we would gladly take many, many more.

Nothing better illustrates the reason that UoPeople was created than our enabling students to continue their studies despite all odds. Students in these circumstances are the very ones we had in mind when we established University of the People. We are so proud of all our 12,000+ students, including over 1,000 refugees, for whom higher education would otherwise be nothing but an unattainable dream.

This is our mission. This is what we do. We’re here to open access to higher education to all those who need. And we couldn’t do it without you. We appreciate any support you can give us to accommodate more students as well as helping us sharing the #UoPeople message.

Thank you for your continued support!
