Reaching 5,000 students;
New MBA & Health Science Programs

Featured images

It is with great excitement that we have officially begun the first term of our eighth academic year.

We are extremely proud to have enrolled over 5,000 students from over 180 countries!

We are grateful to have 5,500 volunteers to help the University grow; surpassed 1.1 million supporters on Facebook; been covered in over 2,500 media outlets; and recently, reached over 3,300,000 viewers on my TED Talk !

This term, we are very honored to welcome our first cohort of MBA students (among them UoPeople graduates) and our first cohort of Health Science students.

There is nothing more in tune with our mission than beginning the new academic year by opening our gates to accessible higher education even wider. Last year we announced the launch of a new scholarship for refugees (mainly from Syria) of whom we committed to 500 to study at UoPeople. We have received a great response from interested applicants so far, with more than 2,000 refugees applying and over 400 already studying with us. 100 more are due to start soon, and with additional resources, we will hopefully be welcoming many more. We appreciate all the support we receive for this worthy cause. For more information regarding supporting refugees, please contact

I want to wish all our students, staff, faculty, volunteers, supporters and friends, a successful and productive academic new year. Thank you for changing the world with us.

We are excited to welcome to the UoPeople community our first cohort of MBA students (and especially UoPeople graduates among them) and Health Science degree students this term!

UoPeople offers a geographically and culturally diverse learning experience and applications poured in from eager students around the world after UoPeople launched its long-awaited, world-first, tuition-free MBA in March. In fact, so high was the demand that we received more than 5,000 applicants from over 160 countries! Dr. Russell S. Winer, William H. Joyce Professor of Marketing at the Stern School of Business, New York University (NYU), is UoPeople’s Dean of Business Administration and heads the new MBA program. He is joined by Dr. Gabriel Hawawini of INSEAD and Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Stephan Chambers of Oxford Saïd Business School, and Dr. Alex Tuzhilin of NYU Stern School of Business, who have all helped envision and contribute to the world class standard of this exciting MBA.

The new Health Science degrees, which have also seen great demand, will prepare health workers for the workforce as well as prepare students for advanced studies within the medical field. Leading figures are heading the program’s Taskforce: Nobel Laureate and President Emeritus of The Rockefeller University, Dr. Torsten N. Wiesel; Chairman and CEO of Fortune 500® company Henry Schein, Stanley M. Bergman;UoPeople Dean and Princeton University Professor Dr. Dalton Conley; and Columbia University Professor Dr. Darcy Brisbane Kelley.

These new offerings at UoPeople are one more step in accomplishing the university’s mission of addressing global needs as well as opening the gates to higher education for qualified students around the world and helping them overcome the financial, geographic, political, and personal constraints which preclude millions from accessing higher education.

UoPeople Opens Gates to Growing Number of Refugee Students

Last year we announced the launch of a new scholarship especially for 500 refugees (mainly from Syria) to study at UoPeople. This initiative has brought the university thousands of applicants, interest among foundations and intensive media coverage, some of which you may find below. Special mention must be given to the generous support from Fondation Hoffmann and Oak Foundation.

With more than 2,000 refugees who have applied from 53 countries around the world, and over 400 already studying with us, this program is proving to be a great success. Hopefully with more resources, we will be able to welcome many more deserving students in upcoming terms.
