Welcome to the Fall 2020 Edition of the Project MALES Newsletter!

We are excited to share updates from Project MALES and the Texas Education Consortium for Male Students of Color about our virtual mentoring, new Webinar Series and Summit Remix events, along with research team updates.

Additionally, Excelencia in Education recognized The University of Texas at Austin with the Seal of Excelencia for 2020. Project MALES was recognized in 2019 as an Example of Excelencia Finalist from the same organization.

Mentoring Program
Virtual mentoring launched!

The Mentoring Program officially launched its virtual mentoring services to ten schools in Austin ISD. Mentees participated in various virtual activities grounded in our 5 pillars: Brotherhood, Leadership, College & Career Readiness, Health & Wellness, and Identity. We look forward to taking lessons learned to kick off virtual mentoring again in 2021!

Since April, Project MALES and the Consortium have hosted a monthly webinar series geared to faculty, staff, and administrators on a variety of topics relevant to higher education, K-12, mental health, COVID-19 and more all in the context of working with boys and young men of color.


Select webinars have been co-sponsored by Excelencia in Education, The Education Trust, and MENTOR National.

Summit Remix Series

The Texas Male Student Leadership Summit brings together boys and young men of color to educate and engage students on a variety of topics related to college and career readiness, identity, brotherhood, and more.

This year we met virtually over a series of events to remix our support for students. Our speakers spoke about staying motivated, self-empowerment, and taking action.

The goal of our Faculty and Research Affiliates Program is to raise the visibility of our affiliates’ research on young males of color by amplifying their work to our growing national network of P-16 practitioners and administrators.
