Hello, everyone! You know when something just feels, right? That’s one of the only ways to explain my joy in joining VSI!  I’ve got some big plans in mind and I couldn’t ask for a more supportive team to guide me. Also, can we talk about how stoked I am for fall? Sweaters & jeans, bonfires, smores, colorful hikes and beautiful weather—what could be better? I’m making sure that this fall is filled with friends, old and new. Don’t “fall” into the winter blues just yet, there’s so much fun to be had! Here’s to the return of the PSL and everything spooky. I. can’t. wait.

Planning a fall wedding? Fall weddings are without a doubt my most favorite wedding of the year. Mainly because I don't have to bring an extra shirt to change into (thank you Illinois summertime humidity) and I get to wear boots! And you really just can't beat the rich, bold and warm colors of fall. I've collected a few tips and tricks to have the best fall wedding ever!

1. Color Palette- Try an unexpected color palette. We all know about the yellows, deep reds and burnt oranges. Give them something they won't expect. I am loving dusty blue, mauve, burgundy, champagne and maroon!

2. Timing your photos- As the days get shorter it's crucial that you time your wedding photos and the rest of your day around optimal lighting and sun conditions. Since sunset is around 5:30-6pm you might want to consider doing a first look so we have as much time as possible for those romantic sunset photos with the two of you.

3. Using fall flavors- While it's kind of cliche to use traditional fall things as decorations (think bright orange pumpkins) they work as main dishes and desserts. I am thinking butternut squash, pumpkin flavored everything, caramel apples, and pies, pies, and more pies!

4. Beverage bars- No I'm not talking about alcohol. How fun is it to include a coffee or hot chocolate bar for your crisp fall wedding day? And how cute would customized coffee sleeves be?

5. Take advantage of mother nature- Fall is without a doubt the most beautiful season in the mid west. So make sure you take advantage of as much color as possible. Instead of the stuffy church photos, organize the family to meet outside in front of a colorful tree. And make sure to talk to your photographer about what places are looking the best! -Holly

Sometimes one of the hardest parts of being a creative is staying inspired. Fall victim to the mundane no more. Below are a plethora of design goodies. SO MUCH CONTENT. SO MUCH INSPIRATION. SO MUCH FUN!! Click the link to expand to the entire image/link, you'll be happy you did!

Fall is almost here and that makes me sooo happy! Like a lot of folks, I am one of those annoying people that are sooo over summer and sooo ready for pumpkin spice everything season. Ironically, I don't even like pumpkin spice, I'm more a white chocolate girl myself, but that's beside the point. Like Christmas time there is something magical about fall. Getting your sweaters out of moth balls (ps. do people even use those anymore?) Wrapping up in your favorite blanket scarf and watching Hocus Pocus exactly 1.6 thousand times. Although fall is my favorite season it's also my busiest around here! So with the days, I do have off we try to make the most of it. Every season I like to make a bucket list of things we want to do, otherwise, time gets away from me and we never end up doing them! Having them on paper seems to help with the chaos. On our list this year are- The Pork and Apple Festival in Clinton, attempting homemade cider (Lydia loves this stuff, I can't stand it,) a trip to Rader Farms, carving pumpkins (again, all Lydia, that slimy pumpkin stuff grosses me out) going for a hike at Lake of the Woods and baking an apple pie! What is on your list this fall? -Holly

A lot has happened since my last update in August! Our little Tman turned 1 yesterday, completely surreal! I am sure I sound like every mom when I say it feels like just yesterday we got to bring him home from the NICU. Time flies so fast, it is so important to make the most of it. I put together all of the photos I did for him over the last year and not gonna lie, I choked me up just a bit. I am stuck between wanting him to be my little baby boy forever and excited about all he will accomplish in this life.

We also sold our house and are within three and a half weeks of closing. While some of our close friends know our full plans, I have been fairly vague until we got through inspections and appraisals. Eric and I  have plans of going tiny and paying off student loans and other debt. I have started a blog called 'Redefining Refuge' and it will be the place you can keep up on our little families adventures.  ONE HUSBAND. ONE BABY. TWO DOGS. ONE FIFTH WHEEL CAMPER.... I'll let you read up on the rest here:
