Spring Wedding TIps

1. SPRING WEATHER IS UNPREDICTABLE
Welcome to Central Illinois where you never know from day to day what the weather will be like! This is especially true in the spring! Spring in Illinois can be derailed by late winter weather. The last thing you want is to envision your wedding filled with crocuses or lilacs, only to be faced with piles of crusty snow. Be sure to keep an open mind, especially April brides, and have back up plans for photos and outdoor venues in case rain or snow decide to rear their ugly head.

2. DO SPRING PASTELS RIGHT
Spring weddings naturally lend themselves to cheery, springy colors. However, be aware pastels can look cliché. There are two ways to do pastels without getting too sickly sweet. First, try a monochromatic palette with pastel shades of the same color. Try a pale blush pink or dusty blue. Second, you could try a pastel shade paired with a bright, cheery color to make it pop. But more importantly, remember this is your wedding day and choose colors that will make you happy!

3. CHOOSE THE RIGHT FLOWERS.
No wedding would be complete without some beautiful flowers for the decor. Flowers can be used in table arrangements at the reception, as decorations and in bouquets. Think cherry blossoms, crocuses, or snowdrops for spring. You can even opt for flowers such as daffodils, tulips, peonies, or snow peas. It really just depends on your preferences. Most of these flowers are available in late spring, so you should have plenty to choose from when planning your special day. Always be sure to consult your florist for the best options for a spring wedding!

Website development is in full swing around here on the design front so I have put together a little 'DOs and DON'Ts" for our web clients.  - Kristi

Normally March is one of the slower months around here, not exactly a popular wedding month and since we can't be outdoors for family/baby photos yet, folks normally wait until April or May for those festive Spring photos. This year, however, was much different. I had 3 weddings this March!  I don't think has happened in the ten years I have been shooting weddings!  All three of them were so different and so lovely in their own way.

The Beaver wedding on March 3rd was in Bloomington, and believe it or not, was the warmest out of the three weddings. Jon and Abby's wedding and reception were held at Epiphany in downtown Bloomington, which was perfect. Not only was everything in one spot, but downtown Bloomington is an awesome place for photos.

March 10th was Dave and Michelle's wedding and that took us to Streator to the Silver Fox. I have heard so much about this
location but had never been there in person. It was such a neat location with lots of different rooms with their own unique characteristics.

Finally, the Pollard wedding was March 17th, St. Patrick’s Day. I can't think of a better couple to tie the knot on this holiday. They got engaged in Ireland a year before their wedding date. I loved how Emily and Bobby tied the spirit of the holiday into their wedding in a creative and classy way.

This March was definitely one for the books. I loved all three of these wedding for different reasons. It definitely got me fired up for my spring weddings this April and May! As always, be on the lookout for those sneak peaks and blog pots in the next few months! -Holly

"The best kind of therapy is beach therapy. A visit to the beach always leaves you feeling alive and cleansed – physically, emotionally and spiritually. The combination of sun, sea, and sand is the most natural and easily accessible form of therapy available to mankind." -Garima Roy

And I got a lot of therapy last week in Mexico! *lets out relaxing sigh thinking of the crystal clear blue ocean*

There really is something to be said about the healing properties of the ocean's salt water, or maybe it was all the piña coladas! Regardless, it was a trip my husband and I have been looking forward to for some time and it was amazing to be in such a beautiful place with great friends and just relax.

We sat next to the pool, sunbathed on the beach, swam in the waves, shopped the market, ate way too much, drank way too much, snorkeled in the reef, jet skied over the open water, hiked the Tulum ruins, raced ATVs through the jungle, and swam in an underground river. It really doesn't get much better than that, other than getting back to our little guy when it was all done. It was the perfect amount of time to relax and enjoy some amazing weather.

We are back to reality now and looking forward to the next adventure, whether it be near or far. <3 - Kristi

I can’t remember starting April out with snow, but there’s got to be a first time for everything, right? That seems to be one of the running themes for 2018. One of the biggest ‘firsts’ this year has been the completion of my first wedding video with Vivid! Taking on some new software and new equipment was pretty daunting, but with a little help, a lot of coffee, and a TON of patience…It’s finally done! Make sure to take a look at the link below.

Aside from the time spent editing and working with our awesome clients, I’ve been sure to get some personal time in by picking up one of my favorite pastimes – Reading! Growing up, reading was always my own little escape, but that all dropped off a bit when college hit. Now I’m back in the pages and SO happy to have so many worlds and perspectives to explore. My recent reads include:

1.      The Handmaid’s Tale – Margaret Atwood

2.      The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck – Mark Manson

3.      The Sun and Her Flowers – Rupi Kaur

4.      Why is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? – Mindy Kaling

Picking up reading again has been so good for my brain during all of these snowy months! Combined with a consistency at the gym and some good laughs with friends, I’d say I’m finding my balance in 2018.

What have your favorite reads been lately? Any ‘firsts’ for you in 2018? I’d love to hear! -Paige
