Do you ever notice how babies come in waves? You look at your news feed and it's either everyone announcing they are expecting or no one is! Since it seems like everyone is announcing they are expecting recently, I thought I would dive into some newborn tips to make your baby's first photo shoot go as smooth as possible! Here are just a few...

1. Lets Pencil Ya In- I can't stress this enough that it is so important to get in touch with your photographer months before your due date. Let us know when your expected due date is so
we can get you on the calendar. Obviously, babies come when they are ready but to have your due date in the calendar allows us to prepare for your upcoming delivery!

2. Birthday- This is also an important one. It is IMPERATIVE to get your new little bundle in for their first photo shoot as soon as possible. After 14 days babies start to lose their 'sleepy
newbornness.' The more sleepy they are the more we are able to curl and pose them into those sweet little poses.

Note- Of course there are always exceptions. If the
baby comes early and they have to stay in the NICU we are happy to work with you no matter how old baby is!

3. Where?- We shoot our newborn sessions here in our studio OR in your home! Both are great options. We just ask that you have at least 1 room with great natural light! And for crying out loud do NOT stress if you think your house is a mess, you just had a baby! We might move furniture around to get the light we need but we promise to put it all back when we are done!

4. Milk, Milk & more Milk- A
well-fed baby is a happy baby! Try and feed your baby 15-30 minutes before we get there. We want a 'milk drunk' baby, they sleep the best! We will take as many breaks to feed them as needed.

5. Patience is key- Newborn sessions can take awhile depending on baby's temperament and willingness to sleep. I often see
a lot of moms get stressed out that 'baby isn't cooperating.' Awake shots can be awesome too. Sometimes it just takes a little time so just RELAX. We will rock this session if it takes 1 hour or 3 hours!

I have compiled a list of fancy FREE fonts for fall, ENJOY! - Kristi

It's November! I can hardly believe this year is almost over! November is one of my most favorite months. The beginning of the holiday season and remembering all the things out there to be thankful for. Since Thanksgiving is on the 23rd this year, I went ahead and made a list of the 23 things I am grateful for this year.

1. Coffee- My body is 10% water and 90% coffee.
2. Dry shampoo- Because who really washes their hair every day?
3. Books- If I had the time I could read 23 hours a day.
4. Candles- Who doesn't love being curled up on the couch, coffee in one hand,
agood book in the other?
5. Best friends who get me- They know who they are, love you girls!!
6. The holidays- Family, friends, food my 3 favorite f-words!
7. Fast internet- Because slow internet will literally make me lose it.
8. When your dog is happy to see you- I love a curly tail wagging at me!
9. Changing into sweatpants as soon as I get home- Because who wears real pants at home?
10. Smiling at strangers- Ok I know it's cheesy but smiling at folks you don't know and getting one back is so nice.
11. A great meal with old friends- Did someone say Watseka Monicals?
12.Cousins- Because you don't have to explain to them your craziness, they just know.
13. The first sign of a new season- The first day you can bust out the flip-flops or the blanket scarf is a glorious day!
14. Finding money in your pocket- Uh duh, who doesn't love finding money...anywhere!
15.The moment you can't control your laughter- Kristi does a mean impression of my laughter, ask her sometime.
16. Handwritten snail mail- Getting a card in the mail is like Christmas!
17. Netflix- Do you really need to ask Netflix? Yes, I'm still here.
18. A good pen- Getting a new pen that writes just how you like...ahh wonderful!
19. Christmas movie marathons- Hello Hallmark!
20. Ratty t-shirts from high school you wear to bed- My oldest is 19 years and still going strong!
21. A fridge full of diet coke- Getting a cold diet coke out of the fridge...
22. Tom Hardy- Always
23. You- If you are taking the time to read this I am truly thankful for your love and support of this business. You. Are. Awesome.

It is November and there is so much to be thankful for! I am most grateful that we are settling into our new place. We have been full-time glampers for the past two and a half weeks. After closing on the house, our friends were kind enough to let us crash their basement for two weeks while we get everything ready for the glamp life. (Shout out to the Whitehouses!!) What is the glamp life? Well, like I have been saying for a while now, we are downsizing, not downgrading. This ‘camper’ is quite the living quarters. This place has nicer finishes than our old house. I will be keeping up with the pros and cons of the downsize and discussing our debt reducing plan more on the Redefined Refuge blog>>>

You can take a look at what the glamper looks like and follow along with our tiny living journey at

Here are just a few for now.

Organize, Organize, Organize is the name of the game this fall! As the cooler months creep in, I’m making sure to get my ducks in a row before all of the holiday planning that is SURE to sneak up on me.  I’ve already started buying Christmas gifts, but I’m not going to decorate until after Thanksgiving. One holiday at a time people! (not to say I haven’t been eyeing all of the great decorations at Michael’s…) I can’t wait to see all of my family together again for food, football and board games which always bring us together after a few glasses of wine, too!

I hope your Thanksgiving is full of family and friends and big bear hugs...and maybe a little Black Friday Shopping ;)  –Paige
