WHAT TO WEAR FOR A FAMILY SESSION

Since October is here that means a lot of you are getting your annual family portraits done! And if you're not...you should be! Fall is the best time of year for family photos in this photographer's opinion. Here are a few tips to help you decide what to wear for the big day!

1. Plan your outfits in advance- And for heaven's
sake make sure you try them on!  Just because something may fit your child doesn't mean they will like it! The material could be too scratchy or not comfy. Kids love comfy! Also, doesn't hurt to have a backup in case you have some major spillage!

2. DON'T match, coordinate- Khakis and white shirts, everyone wearing black, photographs worst nightmare! By selecting a color scheme and using hues that compliment each other you can accomplish a cohesive look across the board! Pick 2 main colors then use softer colors and neutrals to complete the rest!

3. Think about your home decor- Since these photos might be hanging on the wall...let me rephrase that. If you are going to have family photos taken you SHOULD have them hanging on the wall!! Select a location that will be cohesive with your wall colors and decor.

4. Select outfits that will make for timeless photos- I would definitely try to avoid all the 'hottest trends' in clothing for your photos. Styles come and go but your photos are forever.

5. Have fun
playing stylist and let your family's personality shine through.

One of the most fundamental components to making a document visually appealing (and readable) is to make sure the text is designed well. And while there are infinite possibilities for what you can do with your fonts and sizes and organization, if you follow these eighteen rules, your text can transform your document from lackluster to professional to powerful.

If your document has text in it, follow the rules. You’ll start to see a world of difference in your professional documents, whether they be formal reports, brochures, or even your personal résumé. These rules for using text apply across the board. Click on the photo below to see ALL 18 RULES. - Kristi

Gratitude has been on my heart this month. I feel like no matter where I go everyone is complaining about their job. My news feed is cluttered with tons of TGIF pots and the 'I can't believe Monday is already here' posts. How thankful am I that not a single one of those posts pertain to me? How lucky am I to have found my passion and am doing it every day? How grateful am I to all of you? All of you reading this little article and supporting me and what I do. Having the freedom to create art, memories, and experiences for people is the best gift God could have given me. I thank him for it every single day. This job allows me to meet and form relationships with people that could never be replaced. I get to witness and document the happiest moments in my client's lives. To be there when a man and a woman make a promise of forever. To be the first person to capture photos of your new baby is something so wonderful it is hard to put into words. There is a quote that says 'it's a beautiful thing when a passion and a career come together and that is exactly how I feel. -Holly

Well, we did it! As of last Friday we are technically and officially homeless! This was intentional in case you haven't heard. No mortgage and this week we plan to take the money we made on the house to pay off a huge initial chunk of debt. It is so freeing! This Saturday we are setting up our 5th wheel in its year-round location and will be full-time RV-ers! Until then we are staying with friends.

There have been some bumps along the way and I plan to get into the details in my next blog post this week. I have started a blog called 'Redefining Refuge' and it will be the place you can keep up on our little families adventures.  There will be a new blog post this week! We are on our journey to finding financial freedom, embracing minimalism and trusting God with it all! Looking forward to having everything set up and getting into our new lifestyle.

ONE HUSBAND. ONE BABY. TWO DOGS. ONE FIFTH WHEEL CAMPER.... I'll let you read up on the rest here:

October – Man, am I happy to see you! September has been a whirlwind. My to-do lists have been stacked so high I didn’t know where to begin! Between moving back to Bloomington and getting my bearings here at the studio, it’s been a MONTH.  Despite all of this, I’ve made a ton of progress this fall and I’m so happy to have our new videography packages available for you! Shoot me a message or give me a ring at the studio to learn more!

Now that I’m all settled it’s time to enjoy the beautiful weather, one last camping trip, and some family birthdays—including mine! This winter is GO time for new projects, but for
now
I’m going to soak up all things fall and shamelessly enjoy pumpkin spiced EVERYTHING. –Paige
