I swear the older I get the fast the seasons seem to change. I can't believe it's August already. Soon Lydia will be back to school and Kristi and I will be starting our fall busy season, which is by far our busiest of the year! With that in mind, I wanted to share a few tips to make your family sessions this fall go as smooth as possible!

1. Session Time - ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS book your session when your kids are the happiest. Especially if you have little ones!  Never book your session during meal time or nap time! I am very flexible in my scheduling so I will work with whatever makes your kids the happiest. I want this to be a positive and happy experience for everyone!

2. Clothing - Typically Mom's biggest stressor in family photos is...WHAT ARE WE GOING TO WEAR? Give yourself plenty of time to pick out your outfits so you're not rushing at the last minute. And if you're just not sure, ask me! I will be happy to give my input on what looks the best! Also, make sure you try everything on before the session. I can't tell you how many times I've had kids cry because they didn't like how something felt on them or fit.

3.
Day Of4.

- Make sure you don't have any plans before your session. The more activities kids have to do the more tired and cranky they can be! We want happy and smiley kids! :D
Weather - Just because the sun isn't shining doesn't mean that will make for bad photos. Overcast can be wonderful for family photos. However, if it's raining I will be the deciding factor if its to icky to shoot. It's Illinois so one minute it can be raining, the next the sun will be shining so you just never know!

5. What do bring - It's always been my philosophy that less is more with family photos. These are about you and your relationship with your children. If you have too many things in the photos in can be distracting. But if there is something you would really like to
incooperate in your photos, just let me know before hand and we can work it out. Here is a list of things TO being to your session. Snacks, wipes, sippy cups with water, an extra bottle, brush and something from home that typically makes them laugh.

If you follow all these steps I guarantee you will have a much better photo experience! -Holly

graph·ic de·sign     ˈɡrafik dəˈzīn,dēˈzīn/     noun

  1. the art or skill of combining text and pictures in advertisements, magazines, or books.
There are so many rules to art and design, yet there are so many rules to break as well. If you are just starting out, it can seem overwhelming all of the subjective options in the creative world. Here is a list of the top ten 'rules' i think every design can agree upon!

Well it's August...the month that every child dreads and every parent celebrate. It's back to school and even though I have been out of school for quite sometime I can't contain my excitement when it comes to...drumroll, please...SCHOOL SUPPLY SHOPPING!! I can't be the only one right? As soon as Target puts the fresh boxes of 24 count crayons on the shelf I swear I can smell it all the way in Gibson City! I can't help but be a little sad for Lydia though. Back in my day (man that makes me sound ancient) we got to pick out our folders and notebooks with whatever Lisa Frank design we wanted. Now there seems to be lots and lots of rules of what color/kind/brand/style of what you have to buy for kids. No rules for me though!! Nothing makes me happier than buying a brand new set of pens or a cute notebook with some catchy words of wisdom like 'dream big' or the cover from my new planner 'you're killing it.' I hope one day Lydia will appreciate my love of a fine point sharpie but for now, we will stick to our plain red folders and wide ruled composition notebooks. -Holly

August...  it is our absolute craziest month around here! From weddings to school photos and LOTS of sports shoots, August seems to fly by every year. It is important to make most of the time in between the 'big stuff'. Our Tman started holding his own bottle to feed himself, took a huge liking to big boy cups, sleeps all night in his crib across the house AND just last night consistently took 3-4 steps on his own just in the last few weeks... Talk about an overachiever! He is off to the races and we are just watching him take off in stride. Pretty soon we will be sending him off to school and August will have a whole new meaning. He turns a year Sep 5th and there will only be a few more years until he is in school! Yikes!

For now, we treasure the milestones and look forward to new ones. <3 Lets hope we can get our house sold so that we can be in the school district we want by then! Ha. If you know anyone looking for an updated country home, send them to the listing
