Updated: Tarion's Response to COVID-19

In light of the COVID-19 Pandemic declaration by the World Health Organization, Tarion has been taking various precautionary measures and adjusting our operations to ensure the health and safety of our employees as well as homeowners, builders and the greater community. We are making every effort to ensure this situation does not impact our customer service and support for both homeowners and builders.

Our corporate office will be functioning with minimum staff on site. We have technology in place that enables us to continue operations remotely but there may be some delays as we work through the implications of the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on our processes and procedures. We ask for your patience as we make adjustments and we will communicate any necessary changes.

Public Health Ontario is encouraging individuals and businesses to take measures to reduce interactions to help slow the spread of the coronavirus/COVID-19. In support of this directive, Tarion has published information on our website for homeowners and builders regarding conciliations, inspections, PDIs and closings:

If you have any questions about how the measures outlined will impact you and your homeowners, please contact our Customer Service team at customer.service@tarion.com.

UPDATED: TARION'S RESPONSE TO COVID-19
NOTE: ADDITIONAL COMMENTS FROM THE OHBA RE TARION RESPONSE
Tarion has posted important information related to warranty services and unavoidable delay process as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Regarding jobsite and active construction sites, workers have the right to refuse to work if they feel unsafe.  It is important that builders record and document when scheduled work/workers do not arrive to jobsites.  This documentation will be important IF the builder needs to defend their decision regarding warranty services or to unilaterally move critical dates.

The paperwork is important, so please start immediately.

Update from Prince Edward County CAO:
A PSA is forthcoming from the County regarding what inspections are happening, not happening.  In addition, they are working on guidance for how builders/developers can meet the planning requirements for consultation without hosting a public meeting.  Stay tuned for that , expect it to come out next week.

Earlier this week, Council delegated authority for minor planning matters to the CAO - in the coming days we will sort out what can fit in that category and start to move things forward.  You can find the links below.  Right now most of our building, engineering and planning staff are getting settled in work from home situations but in the coming days they will be up and running with meetings/etc. via phone.
