Uraía partners met in Nicosia to exchange experiences on municipal innovation

More than 30 representatives of cities and their partners from all around the world met last month in Cyprus during Uraía’s 2016 workshop. Participants shared experiences on how they have been applying SMART technologies to positively impact the municipal budget, and particularly by increasing municipal revenue through improved tax collection or generating savings through energy efficiency policies. And even more important, how these increased municipal resources are transformed into better, more efficient and inclusive public services. Case studies presented included experiences from: Douala (Cameroon), Kampala (Uganda), Rwanda, Colombia, Guarulhos (Brazil), Montevideo (Uruguay), Cartago (Costa Rica), Argentina, Kathmandu (Nepal), Levahim (Israel), Santander (Spain). Visit our webpage HERE for more information on the agenda, the participants and pictures!

Call for contributions for the 2016 Guidelines Report: share your experience

Following-up on the Nicosia meeting, this year’s Uraia Guidelines document will focus on how SMART technologies can be applied by local governments to increase their revenue or decrease expenses. It will display a series of concrete case studies, experiences, and point of views of cities and their partners; stress challenges, opportunities and lessons learned shared by local governments around the world, and establish concrete recommendations to decision makers who face similar situations and wish to find innovative ways to address the citizen’s demands for better services.

If you wish to contribute to the guidelines document elaboration and have your city or institution’s experience included, contact us at info@uraia.org
