Technology project launched

Natspec has launched a new assistive technology and information technology (AT/IT) project. It is in partnership with Jisc, the UK higher education, further education and skills sectors’ organisation for digital services and solutions. Read more

Your view wanted
Minister for Vulnerable Children and Families Edward Timpson has asked Dame Christine Lenehan to conduct an independent review looking at the outcomes and experiences of children and young people attending residential special schools and colleges. A call for evidence was  launched to seek views on the experiences of children and young people attending residential education. Read more

Congratulations to Sherann Hillman, head of Family Services at Seashell Trust, who was awarded an MBE in the New Year's Honours. Read more
College in BBC documentary
The Royal National College for the Blind featured in a BBC documentary called ‘Am I included?’ which focuses on inclusive education for children with disabilities. The show discusses the difference between mainstream and specialist provision. Read more
Duo create 3D map
Two learners at National Star in Gloucestershire are using 21st century technology to help their friend become more independent at college. They have created a personalised 3D tactile map of their so Elliott Roberts can find his way around the residence on his own. Read more
Linkage rated “Good”
Following a recent Ofsted inspection, Linkage College was judged to be a “Good” college that continues to provide a good educational experience for students. Read more
Natspec annual conference
Natspec holds it annual conference on March 21-22. Staff expertise, high quality resources, and an inter-disciplinary approach all contribute to the success of specialist providers. The conference will give delegates the opportunity to explore best practice across many areas of provision. Read more
Outstanding for Treloar
Ofsted has rated Treloar College as “Outstanding” in all aspects of its provision, confirming that it is one of the very best specialist colleges in the country. Read more
Improving travel skills
Ambitious College is working with Transport for London to make public transport travelling a reality for learners who may have lacked the confidence to use it in the past. Read more
#MathsGamesOn
This week Natspec launches Maths Week 2017. It runs from 27 February to 3 March and this year our theme is Maths: Game On!  The purpose of the week is to put the spotlight on maths, an area of the curriculum that can be challenging for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Read more
