Exciting Events Happening!
We hope everyone is staying healthy and happy, and we wanted to give you an update on what Sustainable Newton has been working on.
A Virtual Town Hall Chat with City of Oxford Officials

On July 9, Sustainable Newton hosted a virtual town hall chat with City of Oxford officials to explore their efforts to promote and enhance sustainability in their city. Joining us for the one-hour video conference were Mayor David Eady, Council Member Laura McCanless, and Council Member Jim Windham.
The conversation yielded interesting insights and informative dialog about where Oxford is headed.
You can check it out on our website or here (https://youtu.be/Smuofw9pyn4).

Last year, Sustainable Newton hosted four public counting events in support of the 2019 pollinator census. This year, with the public health risks associated with large gatherings during the pandemic, we will shift our focus to preparing Newton County residents to count pollinators on their own and record results for the census on August 21-22.
Join Sustainable Newton as we prepare for the Great Georgia Pollinator Census by chatting with two very knowledgeable experts from the University of Georgia Extension Service on August 5 at 2 pm:
- Becky Griffin is the Community and School Garden Coordinator for the extension service. She is also a Georgia Certified Beekeeper/Pollinator Health Program Associate.
- Ashley Best is an Agriculture and Natural Resources Agent and the Extension Coordinator for Newton County
We will livestream the discussion and also record for sharing on our website, YouTube channel, and social media. You can see the link for joining the livestream – and other information – by clicking on the link below.
