Equality Florida Auction Going On Now Through October 12
Due to Hurricane Matthew the annual Equality Florida Jacksonville Gala has been postponed to Saturday, January 14, 2017, at The River Club overlooking downtown Jacksonville (more info). The gala auction is already online and taking bids through Wednesday, October 12, at 9 PM. Since the event itself has been postponed it is even more important to support the auction and you may even get some really great deals. Two R Middleton abstract works are available!
Floor to Ceiling Live Painting at The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens during Legend Series Chef's Canvas Event
Live Painting in Cummer Museum
On March 12, I created a spontaneous abstract painting on a tableau of canvas covering 13 feet by 20 feet in front of an audience of about 300 people. The Vicarious Cari Sanchez-Potter approached me to, in essence, be live visual entertainment during The Legend Series' celebration of The Chef's Canvas, a cookbook produced by Cari and The Cummer Museum, with photography by Agnes Lopez and design by Varick Rosete. My usual creative process is pulling all-nighters, alone, jamming to music, and taking my time. Almost the complete opposite of this event. I like to say YES to new experiences. I got to be a part of a project that incorporated contributions from so many -- and I loved it!

The event generated significant exposure as well as sales. It was a rush doing it and I have called it "the greatest night of my professional life (so far)." For more photos and a video, see

Major Art Fair Coming to Jacksonville November 10 - 13. Look for Me and My Work at the Pilot Season Dinner Saturday Night!
On November 12, I will be transforming a portion of the Doro Fixtures warehouse into my studio for Art Republic's Pilot Season Dinner Sponsored by Pilot Pen. The ambiance will be evocative of New York City during the postwar birth of Abstract Expressionism and years following when studios and salons were home to gatherings of collectors and creatives. The Doro Fixtures building is located at 102 A. Philip Randolph Boulevard, Jacksonville. Watch this space.
Boundless: The Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville's 40th Annual Arts Awards Gala
On May 7, The Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville celebrated 40 years of enriching the arts and culture of Northeast Florida with a party that had to be seen to be believed. Overlooking the 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass on the eve of The Players Championship, the Boundless gala surpassed every expectation of the 600 in attendance. I chaired the arts auction portion of the evening, in which the works of thirteen artists were offered and proceeds went to both the Cultural Council and the donating artists. The auction raised approximately $5,000 in total. I chose my grandfather's red silk brocade dinner jacket for the evening, and Honorary Chair Molly LeFeber Curry requested my help outfitting her date in the dress code's "creative black tie" — and so I happily created a custom painted bow tie worn to the event by Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry.

October - December, 2017, R Middleton abstract art will be displayed in the Jacksonville International Airport's Haskell Gallery.
I am grateful for the growth I have experienced in the last few years. No doubt there are many opportunities ahead during the remainder of 2016 and awaiting in 2017. I will continue to push myself to the best of my ability. I was planning to write a discussion of the philosophy behind my commitment to abstract art, but this newsletter is long enough! Please stay connected and look for further communications from me in the future.
Thanks for your support! ~Rob
