It’s the start of the August long weekend here in Canada and I know that where possible people will be leaving town in droves, I will be heading back from a week’s R&R having stayed at a friend’s lakefront village, east of Kingston.
Our foreign travel plans are pretty much all grounded at this time and so finding a nearby spot to have some downtime is so very important.

Navigating the new normal is getting to feel more like simply normal these days. We would never leave home without our keys, wallet, and phone and now we have simply added a face mask and hand sanitizer.
So many masks and so much hand sanitizer (so much that we commissioned our own sanitizer; it exceeds WHO guidelines, comes in a smart bottle and does not smell like you have spent the afternoon in the pub). It is the little things that get you through.

I am looking forward to a quiet weekend in the city. Hopefully we will get out hiking and find time to putter in our garden which truthfully is so much happier that we are home and not jet setting around. All my annuals are blooming and basking in all the additional care and attention that they never normally receive.
I miss travelling, I miss dining out on a whim, I miss seeing & hugging people that are not in my bubble, and I miss all the industry associated events and dinners that I took very much for granted. It will be interesting to see what I let back into my life when I am able.
Working out from home was something I had never considered but I really love it and do not see myself having a gym membership again. This is a big statement for someone who has had one and used it for decades.
I do not miss driving and parking and squeezing into a spot in my yoga studio. I actually work out more now, so that has been a big plus point.

Home exercise equipment has come a long way, pieces look good and if you are tight for space or have an aversion to big ugly things in your home (I hear you) the following may be of some help.
Lululemon has recently purchased Mirror. Mirror is a full-length mirror (when not in use) that when connected will stream every kind of workout imaginable. Designed by Brynn Putnam a former New York City ballet dancer, it does not surprise me at all that the idea came from a smart girl living in a city with incredibly compact living spaces. It is perfect for rooms that may double as a guest room or office. I can really see this taking off.
A Peloton bike is slim and good looking, and the app is brimming with yoga and strength classes as well as the studio cycling classes. Cardio workouts are a breeze with one of these.
In addition to these, all you really need are a yoga mat and some hand weights and you have your own home gym!
Bye-bye ugly bulky equipment. It has been a long time coming but I am so glad that home exercise equipment is getting a makeover and the time is very much now!

Keep your eyes peeled for a feature on my very own studio washroom in the Style Section of the Globe & Mail. It will appear early in August in the Saturday edition – I do not think this weekend, but hopefully next.
It is lovely to get some press but even more fantastic when it's about barrier-free design that is never seen in the mainstream press.
I will be sure to link to the article as soon as it's landed.

At long last they did arrive, they actually were delivered at the end of June from the mill in Scotland. The local Canadian printer making the packaging, however, didn’t reopen until the end of June so I only have my hands on the descriptive labels now.
We are planning our photoshoot for early August and I cannot wait to share the photos with you. We are shooting in and around Caledon surrounded by trees and mother nature, hopefully with a lot less mosquitoes than we had on Tuesday! We scouted and found the perfect spots and I am so looking forward to the shoot.
Whatever you get up to this weekend, I hope you have a great time!
Thank you for your continued reading & support.
