White Christmas

Call for projects in unexpected places
Data limite: 11 de Dezembro de 2016

The selected projects will be realized at specific or unspecific in- or outdoor spaces in the city, in the countryside or in the nature. The inner space of the Belluard fortress is not available this year. All forms of artistic expression will be considered. The more interdisciplinary the better! An international jury will select the projects that will receive a production grant of between CHF 2.000 and CHF 12.000. These will then be produced within the framework of the Belluard Festival 2017 (22nd June to 1st July 2017) in Fribourg, Switzerland.

Applications shall be accepted from interdisciplinary artists and practitioners from other fields – citizens of Fribourg or the rest of the world, individuals or groups – submitting performative or installative projects or interventions within the formal frame".

PREZIOSA Young Design Competition 2017
Data limite: 15 de Dezembro de 2016

"In a world that wants us more and more homologated, equal to each other, but at the same time puts the emphasis on racial, religious or ideological differences, erecting walls in defense of false values, and imprisons those who seem different, the valorization of its own and others’ cultural identity becomes a respectful and mutual understanding issue.
Everyone has the right and the duty to cultivate its present history and its traditions, and transmitting them to his children, in the forms and in the manner that every people choose for itself.
A kind of world cultural domination wants to dictate to all of us how to make our choices, how to dress, how to talk, what to eat, and what art to produce.
Far from being a limit, the cultural differences are an inalienable wealth for the whole of humanity, and not just for a specific country, or a specific geographical, political or military area.
Classical art and traditional crafts, constitute for every human group and every single person a legacy that cannot be ignored, or simply put aside.
Contemporary research has its roots in this memory, and from it draws its nourishment.

Based on the above considerations, we invite worldwide young jewellery makers to apply and submit works from which emerges a research linked to the contemporary interpretation of traditional themes of your culture, in the broadest sense of the term.

Your research can be inspired to any traditional art or craft form, a material, a technique, an object of use, an ornamental detail, or architectural elements, without any limit. Immaterial source of inspiration are also admitted.
The creative process, the reasons, the objectives of the candidates should be explained through the objects and the statement submitted to the jury".

The program is designed as a collegial experience and encourages an open exchange of creative and technical innovations. Residents are able to pursue both individual and collaborative work that is explorative and experimental.

The Windgate ITE International Residency Selection Committee decided, in 2015, to address a need by adding an eigth fellowship to be awarded to a student.  The intent is to encourage the inclusion of a person that is at the beginning of their career as opposed to those who are more established in theirs.  Applicants must exhibit proficiency in techniques in woodworking as well as exhibiting creativity in design in their work.  Their participation in this residency will be as a peer with the other residents and will be included in the exhibition at the conclusion of the residency".

ATHENS JEWELRY WEEK 2017 Open Call
Data limite: 20 de Janeiro de 2017

"ATHENS JEWELRY WEEK made its debut last summer in Athens. The organization, aspiring to evolve to an institution that could breathe new life into contemporary jewelry in Greece, managed to bring together Greek jewelry designers living in the country and abroad, schools, galleries and a broad audience that supported the entire event. Through a series of exhibitions, lectures and workshops that took place in several spots downtown Athens, visitors had the chance to follow a particular route in the city and discover the contemporary trend of art jewelry, by artists who consider jewelry as a form of art, while using the body and its adornments as their “canvas”.

This second edition of ATHENS JEWELRY WEEK opens its boundaries, hoping to establish a bridge and a dialogue between national and international participants.

ATHENS JEWELRY WEEK 2017 will take place in Athens in early summer. All events scheduled (exhibitions, actions, performances, seminars, lectures) will open to the public between 31/5 and 4/6. Depending on their content/purpose, they may last from one day up to one month".

AMBERIF DESIGN AWARD 2017
Data limite: 6 de Fevereiro de 2017

"Periphery
In the centre certain rules, loops and rhythms are the guaranty for order. This inner focus is under control and things seem to be known and safe. But we are aware that these regular structures are surrounded by increasing entropy. The very momentum when the crystallized order starts to flow can also be identified as periphery. An aggregate condition of moving informality begins before everything evaporates further on. In this periphery control seems to get lost, irritation starts, irregularity and openness can happen. Unseen ideas can grow. Our creativity is equally liquid where these two spheres meet.

Resin as a material has the unique ability to leave its set structure behind as well, to pour out of its order and reach the periphery and turn into amber. In this flow enrichment is achieved. How can we interpret amber within jewellery to represent our understanding of periphery and openness?".

Symposium ThinkingJewellery 11
On the way to developing a theory of jewellery
Topic 2016: "The material of art – imagination and virtual worlds"
10th and 11th of December 2016
at the Trier University of Applied Sciences,
Department of Gemstones and Jewellery
Campus Idar-Oberstein

Academic colloquium with:
Dr. Sibylle Anderl, Ph.D. Marjolijn Bol (requested), Patricia Domingues MA | PIN Member, Rudy Faulkner MFA, Elvira Golombosi MFA, Dr. Niklas Hebing, Wilhelm Lindemann, Prof. Dr. Olaf Müller, Prof. Dr. Regine Prange, Mag. Paulus Rainer, Eduardo Tarin MFA and Silvia Weidenbach MA.

"The material of art
Imagination and virtual worlds

Precious material – gold, silver, precious stones – apart from its utility value, also has a lasting legacy because of its symbolic power. In the area of jewellery, the classic range of materials is supplemented by many natural materials and plastics that can be filled with meaning. Even in jewellery, art – the old mistress of fiction, utopian design and thus virtuality – outlasts time: Ars longa – vita brevis.

Meanwhile, it is not only the physics that has long since moved away from the traditional ideas of a ‘fixed’ material into dynamic cosmological models. The digital age is revolutionizing living conditions, and particularly people’s social relationships – probably to a greater extent than the invention of book printing at the beginning of the modern era.

Virtuality does not require proof of genuineness, or a real correspondence of material, shape and colour. In light of these – thoroughly omnipresent – scenarios, there is a growing desire for the authenticity of analogue life, for a permanence and value, which materialises in the material and therefore sensual presence of high-value goods that give a sense of identity, or in art. What contribution can art make, so that people in an increasingly.

Virtual world can adequately further develop the ground under their feet in analogue everyday life?
‘SchmuckDenken’ [Thinking Jewellery] is the attempt to reflect upon what jewellery is. It is about an interdisciplinary conver- gence either side of the crucial categories of handicraft or art, applied or free: to discover what jewellery is made up of, not what it looks like. The need for adornment and jewellery has accompanied humanity as an anthropological constant since the beginning. As an important cultural heritage, jewellery is continually reinterpreted in all eras. ‘SchmuckDenken 11’ collects relevant analyses and action perspectives for artistic practice".
