A criminal hacking into your business computer system and freezing it until you pay a hefty ransom, or a fraudulent online attempt to access your bank account.

It couldn't happen to you. Could it?

The answer is Yes. The police report that in the first six months of this financial year, £10.6 million was lost to fraud in Kent alone, with 69% of the fraud victims being businesses.

All business is vulnerable to online hacking and cybercrime. It's one of the biggest threats to businesses of all sizes, and is growing by the day.

Wealden Business Group (WBG) is organising a 'Fraud, Scams and Cybercrime' workshop at Little Silver Country Hotel, Tenterden, on Wednesday, 22nd March.

Speakers will include Det Insp Lee Morton from the Kent & Essex Serious Economic Crime Unit, and Jacqui Offen, a director of JJ Systems, a consultancy specialising in prevention of online attack.

On the face of it, last week's Budget appeared to load extra costs onto small businesses and the self-employed.

On Wednesday, 15th March, WBG members will be briefed by David Meredith, senior partner at chartered accountants Busbys on the issues and opportunities presented by the Budget.
