Fundraising Update

If you didn't get our last e-mail I will share the exciting news again: Logan and Carla have had their paperwork done and have been granted a residency permit to move to the country April first.

In the December update we were 1700$ short of monthly pledged giving in our fundraising efforts, I'm glad to say that since then we have raised 800$ in giving and are now 900$ short of reaching our goal!
We want to thank the 21 churches, and 53 individuals and/or families for their love, prayers, support and generosity. God bless you guys.

As I was not using social media for the month of January there will not be a lot of pictures to follow our update this month, and I may miss some recaps as I usually use my instagram account to recap the last month, but here are a few recaps.
  • Book Keeping
As we're a low budget operation I put on many different hats, but for the start of the month I got our books in order to get some paperwork done that needs to be done for the government.
  • A Funeral
A couple in our church found out in the beginning of the year that they had lost their unborn baby in the womb, please pray for God's strength and comfort to be evident in their lives.
We had a funeral in a snowy cemetery where the child was buried with it's great grandparents.
  • A trip to Israel
For my 30th birthday I took the advice of an old retired pastor, if I remember correctly: "Go to Israel early in your ministry as it will change the way you experience and preach the Scriptures".
And so I went on a father and son trip with my dad, stayed in the old city of Jerusalem in an Airbnb, explored and can say with full confidence, the pastor was right, and we stayed there for 8 days, making friends, drinking good coffee and walking around 120km to explore the city, it's history and archaeology.
  • Doubt night
We also hosted our first ever doubt night in a cafe downtown, it just so happened to be that an LGBT advocate group was having a get together there at the same night and would periodically go silent to listen.
We dealt with great questions about the faith starting with "What makes Christianity different from other faiths?" as an opener and then having questions come up about slavery in the Bible, genocide of the Canaanites, morality, hell and many more.
We are doing doubt nights the last Friday of every month, so please be in prayer that this would reach non-believers with the gospel.
  • Training Preachers
As I was away, the guy overseeing our University Ministry preached which has caused me to want to help others grow in their preaching abilities and get another man in the church to preach once per Sunday to allow for training and critique, but also to give me time to work on classes that I think would be beneficial to the church.
The class I'm working on now is Biblical Discipleship, and a desire is to work on more classes in the future such as Evangelism, Biblical Counselling, Preaching, Leadership, Christianity 101 (for curious people), Christian Community, Biblical Marriages, Godly parenting, Dealing with Addiction, Deacon, and Biblical view on finances.
  • Svava goes to USA
So after the trip, doubt night came three days later and quickly following the weekend Svava went to USA to be a bridesmaid in a wedding in Fredericksburg, VA and will return home this Saturday.
Here we are, father and son at the western wall, of what is popularly called the Temple Mount.
I'm slowly but surely uploading videos on my instagram account from Israel, you can see that by following @icegunns.

Logan & Carla

Preaching at Pillar
Logan had a chance to preach at Pillar Church of Dumfries on December 30th. 14 months before this, Logan was visiting Pillar Church for the first time, praying the God would open up doors so that he and Carla could move to Iceland.
CROSS Conference
Logan and Carla were able to attend CROSS19, a missions conference for 18-25 year olds. It was a great opportunity to meet people and tell them about the mission work in Iceland, as well as tell them about New City Network, the church planting network at McLean Bible Church that has trained Logan.
Meeting a partner
One amazing aspect of CROSS19 was being able to share the experience with Kate Gardner, one of the supporters of The Iceland Project, and a prayer warrior for Carla and Logan. Kate has become a dear friend to Carla and Logan!
Meeting Family
Carla and Logan were able to spend some time with Carla’s parents, Dudley and Janet Graves, who are missionaries in Italy, and other members of Carla’s family to celebrate her grandmother’s 90th birthday.
Talking about Iceland at CHBC
Logan had the opportunity to share about the work in Iceland at Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington DC. Pastor Mark Dever asked some questions to help inform people about what we hope to see happen with church planting in Iceland.
Meeting Family
Logan has the opportunity to preach at Redemption Church in Arnold, MD. Redemption Church is one of the newest partner churches with The Iceland Project and they will be sending 3 teams to Iceland in 2019.
