The Iceland Project

Before going into specific details about ministry in Iceland i’d like to fill you in on what’s happening in the Iceland Project in general.

We are approaching that time of year when the window of fundraising is becoming important and quickly closing as most churches lock down their budgets for their upcoming fiscal year, If you would pray for us as we seek to raise more fund for the Iceland Project to have funds for continued ministry on the ground and bringing over Logan and Carla.
If you are able and willing to give, information as to how is at the bottom of this e-mail, feel free to send any questions my way.

A couple of more announcements with regards to the Iceland Project:
  • The process of setting up a separate 501(c)3 in the USA has begun and will hopefully be done later in 2019.
  • The Iceland Project will become more centralised the more missionaries and church planters we get.
    • This mean that emails will become shorter and to the point while filling you in on everybody on the ground.
    • This also mean that for any future churches supporting the Iceland Project will not be only supporting one church on the ground but all gospel ministry done through the Iceland Project.
    • If you want more detailed you can listen to the last Stranded Baptist episode here or find it on any platform you get your podcasts from.

Now that’s out of the way, lets get to the updates!

USA Sabbatical
The sabbatical is over, and I must admit I didn’t realise how much I needed it, I survived the heat, we had a lot of fun as a family hanging out with friends, going to zoos, hanging out at the beach, driving mountains and checking out cities, it was awesome and we are refreshed and glad to be back at work!
While we were there I got to meet with some pastors and talk in some churches about Iceland, churches like Pillar Church of Dumfries, Hope Chapel in Colorado Springs, McLean Bible Church in Virginia and meet with the elders to tell them about Iceland at Capitol Hill Baptist Church in D.C. but did not preach my entire time there.

While there we also released the new promo video for Loftstofan Baptistakirkja which you can view by clicking on the picture here below:
Back in the pulpit.
It took a few days to adjust the whole family to the time difference but I was so glad to pick up preaching duties again!

Currently we are doing something out of the ordinary for us, a topical sermon series on questions with regards to the faith for about 10 weeks before jumping back into the latter half of the book of Daniel.
Group from D.C.
We tested out our hopes for how we can equip future groups to start conversations better, share the gospel, and if there is no open door for the gospel still manage to make every conversation count.
We tried doing our first survey for the Iceland Project, got good conversations on faith going, shared the gospel some and got some valuable data out of every conversation.
University Ministry
As we landed we also had one guy join us on the ground who will lead the Loftstofan campus ministry, his name will be held back as he thinks God may call him to missionary work in the future and doesn't want his name to be out on the web to possibly hinder access to possibly tough places to reach.
It will be called "Ex Deus" and as of next week we will start a small group that we hope turns into several small groups and even later on a possible service for University students.
Our hope is that he can do this full time, he already has the support of his former church, and we pray that we would be able to gather more support so that he could focus on this entirely when not tied up with school work.
If you want to give towards something like this, let me know.
The Church
We celebrated our 5 year anniversary as a church this August, the church did good this summer, one person came to faith, possibly two, we have a members meeting coming up and membership class, and a theology weekend with Dr. Schrock.
After a small dip in attendance after moving worship locations we have recovered and grown in attendance, giving and our people in maturity in their faith.
The Family
Svava and I are refreshed and excited to face whatever may come here in the near future, and in awe and wonder that God would allow us to participate in his work here in Iceland.

Mikael - He only has 3 months left of home administered chemo treatment until he is finally off and goes into regular checkups, he turned 6 in June and is starting 1st grade in a special needs school this week!
Sigurrós - She turned 3 years old in May and is getting excited and adjusted about life back home, she's especially enjoying pre-school again.
Salómon - He is a beam of joy, showing slow and steady growth in maturity, although very behind, he is back in his special needs pre-school into regular physical therapy and now even a musical class!

Life is complicated right now, but we're trying to figure it out, three kids with three separate places to bring them in the morning, but just as with anything else, by God's grace he will give us a way.

Virginia So Far
Carla and I have had an exciting summer! We moved from Mississippi to Northern Virginia right after easter and we have been so blessed by the warm receptiveness of our new church family at Pillar Church. We didn't waste any time getting involved in the life of the church.
We had the awesome opportunity to serve at three separate children's camps over the summer. I have had the opportunity to preach on a few occasions at two church plants in the DC area as well as our church plant in Quantico. Carla is now serving as the interim children's minister while the children's minister is on maternity leave. We are so thankful to be a part of a church that is focused on church planting and has over a
decade of experience with Iceland. It has made the transition from our previous church, which was so dear to our hearts, much easier.
New City Network
Church planter training is underway and this year's planter class is extremely diverse and full of guys who have a passion to start gospel-centered churches in the DC area, in France and us in Iceland. We meet weekly on Thursdays and are learning a ton from our incredible group of instructors.
This training will be invaluable as we seek to start a new church in Reykjavík.
Fundraising is underway and we are currently working with several prospective partner churches who are interested in supporting us as we seek to church plant in Iceland. We are currently working on our Church Planting Prospectus and hope to have it complete by the middle of September.
Once this is done, we will be contacting several churches and individuals to ask them to partner with us as we prayerfully seek to plant a new church in Iceland. Currently we are at about 25% of our monthly commitment goal for the first year on the ground working with Loftstofan which is $100,000. We still have a long way to go, but we know that God will provide and we are excited about each new person and church that is partnering with us in our missionary church planting work.
Planting Partner
We have a prospective church planting partner, Wade and his wife Elva Lee! Elva is from Iceland and moved to Mississippi to attend college at Mississippi State University. Wade is a former youth pastor and desires to complete seminary and enter into full-time vocational ministry. They are both excited to join us as we seek to plant Redeemer city Church of Reykjavík.
