From the Deputy Secretary of Commerce & Trade:
BIG NEWS - A message from Cassidy Rasnick, Deputy Secretary of Commerce and Trade: I wanted to touch base and let you all know that overnight summer camps in Virginia can begin planning to open next summer, and that we'll work together on putting the guidelines in place. I’m sure you know that we’ll have to amend the Governor’s Executive Order and the Phase 3 guidelines before you can open – but we did want to give you some comfort now that we’re aiming to have y’all open safely next summer. I know there’s lots of planning behind the scenes!
As you may remember from our conversations in the spring, I’m leading this work for the administration in partnership with my colleagues from the Virginia Department of Health. They have the plan you sent over for review, and I’ll reach out next week to schedule a time for us to discuss.
What does this mean for Caroline Furnace?
We are excited! We expect to reopen for overnight Summer Camp in some capacity in 2021. We do not know details yet, and likely won't until we get closer to Summer 2021.
What we do know:
1. The Coalition of Virginia's Overnight Summer Camps is working with state representatives in developing guidelines based on research and recommendations from the American Camp Association.
2. Just like Summer 2020, Caroline Furnace is making plans that can be adapted to a number of scenarios.
3. We need your help now more than ever! While this is exciting news, we are still continuing with Summer Camp pre-registration until further notice. This means that we are not accepting Summer Camp payments (not even deposits!) yet, which are typically an important source of revenue in the winter months. Even once we begin to take payments, we expect to see a reduced number of campers in 2021.
YOUR generosity will help us reach next summer, and the next, so that we may continue to provide unforgettable experiences for all!
Because the World Needs Caroline Furnace Tomorrow
Thank you for your continued support of your outdoor ministry! So far, we have raised over $60,000, with individual and organization gifts ranging from $20 to $15,000. To reach 2022, we must raise $200,000 by March 2021 in order to maintain continuity over the next 12 to 18 months.
Caroline Furnace is YOUR outdoor ministry. As friends, neighbors, and partners, this is your story, and it is up to you to continue it. Help us reach next summer and keep the legacy and tradition of Caroline Furnace alive for generations to come.
Number of Gifts: 91 | Gifts Total: $60,247
Note: Follow along as this tree fills with leaves! Each leaf represents one gift and the leaves get darker for larger gifts. The cardinals represent gifts of greater than $5,000. The average gift is $100.
