Grow your own food. We share locally adapted, open-pollinated, non-hybrid seeds, plants & knowledge for edible gardening

Winter solstice with David in Gleniffer 2022

It was back to familiar territory in June, to celebrate the promise of longer days with our cheerful host, 'Dr' Pepper.
A sumptuous lunch was enjoyed around his lively campfire.
The rain held off (mostly), we got in a garden ramble and all thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon in fine company.
Thanks David for continuing to host this event and leading us away from the long, dark, cold nights to the grey, drizzly, cold days. Whoops something has gone wrong with the script and I'm sure it's not David's fault.

Seed saving workshop at Woolgoolga community gardens

Sunday 24th of July 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Jeff, Nick and Leela are heading up to Woolgoolga community gardens this Sunday morning, 9am, the 24th of July.  They'll have a chat about the ins and outs of seed saving and the way our BSS group does things.

Seed-saving is serious business now. As we all acutely know, the last two growing years have been unpredictable ones for the East Coast and the coming one is predicted to be tricky too. There have been some successes, but also many disappointments for our regular savers. The appetite for collecting seeds to grow is still strong, but our saved stocks have dwindled, thanks to the uncooperative weather and high demand for our seeds.

Many packets of seed are out there, lurking in cupboards, waiting for a little moisture, warmth and love. Please get them growing and let a few fully mature for saving, where genetic purity is possible. Perhaps share excess seedlings with friends who might also be positioned to save pure seed of our treasured varieties. Now, more than ever, we need your input to continue to distribute our locally saved seed.

Guerrilla gardener Ron Finley's words "growing your own food is like printing your own money" have never been truer, so let's get growing!

If seed saving is a mystery to you, Jeff and the team will provide the information you need to get you started at this workshop.

If you attend, please bring a plate of yummies to share for morning tea.

If you are coming down with something, please do not attend the seed saving workshop.

Coming?  Note this event is being hosted by the Woolgoolga Community Gardens not the Bellingen Seed Savers. Positions are limited, please RSVP to Lisa O'Callaghan / or phone 0417 536 490

BSS Seed packing day in Raleigh with Chris

Sunday 21st of August 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Well I managed to miss our last seed packing day at Chris's, but by all accounts it was a fantastic day despite the crazy weather, so we'll 'play it again Sam'.

Definitely planning to get down the mountain for this one. We will work a little, share a little, and probably laugh and eat a lot! Please come along, or forward any seeds for us to pack with your details

If you are coming down with something, please do not attend the event.

Coming? please click here to RSVP, to obtain the address and so we know who’s attending. Please RSVP even if you already know how to get there.
