Coughlin Delivers Another Trial Victory 
Following trial victories in November and December of last year, George P. Coughlin continued his winning streak with a jury trial victory on Feb. 10 in the Circuit Court of Phelps County in Rolla, MO. He represented Staples, Inc., a national office supply retailer.

Wilcox, McMonigle, and Hoffman Attend Transportation Lawyers Association Regional Seminar 

John F. WilcoxPatrick K. McMonigle, and Ken Hoffman attended the TLA's Regional Seminar which took place Jan. 22 in Chicago, IL. Wilcox also organized and led the Seminar's Broker Boot Camp on Jan. 21.
Wilcox Achieves Arbitration Victory 
John Wilcox recently achieved a significant victory for his client, a state transportation agency, in a case involving a motor vehicle accident between a pickup truck and a motorcycle.

Association for Women Lawyers of Greater Kansas City Selects Ketchum
as President
Managing Director Amanda Pennington Ketchum was selected to serve as president of the Association for Women Lawyers of Greater Kansas City (“AWL”). She has been a member of the organization’s board of directors for more than 10 years and has served as Chair or Vice Chair of many of AWL’s committees prior to taking on this leadership role.

Janssen Delivers Seminar on Safeguarding Financial Future of Elderly Clients
Stacey L. Janssen delivered a seminar on protecting the assets of elderly clients while qualifying them for Medicaid. This was part of a program hosted by the National Business Institute and Continuing Education credit was available. The topics Stacey discussed included:

I. Applying for Medicaid - The Four Eligibility Requirements
II. Pre-Need Asset Planning
III. Crisis Planning and Assistance
Ketchum Attends USLAW NETWORK Managing Partner Forum 

Managing Director Amanda Pennington Ketchum met with managing partners of USLAW NETWORK firms from across the country to discuss best practices in law firm management. The forum was held Feb. 4 in Dallas, TX.
Bahr Attends Heckerling Institute on Estate Planning
Stephen J. Bahr once again attended the University of Miami Heckerling Institute on Estate Planning at the Orlando World Center Marriott Resort and Convention Center in Orlando, FL from Jan. 11 - 15.

According to the event’s program, “The Heckerling Institute on Estate Planning is not only the leading continuing education program for estate planners, but also the national gathering place for all members of the estate planning team, including attorneys, trust officers, accountants, charitable giving professionals, insurance advisors, elder law specialists, wealth management professionals, educators and nonprofit advisors.”  

This annual event was attended by approximately 3,500 estate planning professionals from across the country and included presentations by nationally known speakers on topics such as recent developments in estate planning, enhancements to current planning strategies, along with new cutting edge estate planning ideas and techniques.
Ketchum Discusses Law Firm Management in Kansas City Business Journal 
Managing Director Amanda Pennington Ketchum was recently interviewed for an article in the Kansas City Business Journal in which she shares her thoughts on issues facing law firms including diversity, succession, and a multi-generational workforce.

Coughlin Attends Defense Research Institute Annual Product Liability Conference 
George P. Coughlin attended the Defense Research Institute Annual Product Liability Conference in New Orleans, LA from Feb. 2 - 5. He has attended this annual legal conference for more than 20 years. While he was there he also attended the invitation-only Terex Panel Counsel meeting in which Terex Corporation hosts attorneys who do product liability defense work for it and its subsidiaries such as Genie Industries, Inc.
Wilcox Attends USLAW Transportation Law Exchange 
John F. Wilcox attended the USLAW NETWORK Transportation Law Client Exchange in Dallas, TX from Feb. 22 - 23. The presentations in which he participated were: 
  • "Don’t be Hoisted by Your Own Petard: Defending Against Your Own Manuals, Policies and Procedures"
  • "Elevating the Standard of Care: When it Comes to Medically Qualifying Drivers - Inherent Defects in the CSA Program"

  • "The Impact of the Legalization of Marijuana on Motor Carrier Drug Testing Policies"
