Welcome to the April 2017 edition of the ICC Newsletter, with news about ICC - the international language association and its members, along with selected news from the world of language education.

The Language Teacher 2020
Using New Media: Challenges and Responses
The 2017 ICC conference will be held at the ECML headquarters in Graz, Austria from April 21 - April 23, starting at 1800 on Friday evening with a reception and closing Sunday at 1300.
The cost for ICC members is €130, and includes the reception & dinner on Friday, lunch on Saturday & Sunday, and refreshments during the conference.
The non-member fee is €180, which also gives the delegate free membership of the ICC for the calendar year of the conference (Jan-Dec 2017).
Students pay a reduced fee of €70.
A few rooms are available at the convent 'Exerzitienhaus' at a cost of €40 per night, but the number of rooms is limited and will be booked up quickly. Details here:

Graz has many hotels at all price points, but they can get filled quite early, so we suggest booking your room as soon as possible.
There is a wide range of well-known speakers including keynotes from Ursula Stickler, Robert O'Dowd, Ian McMaster, and ICC Board members Rob Williams, Barry Tomalin and Michael Carrier.

AGM - Annual General Meeting of ICC members
The AGM will be on Saturday morning and will review the year 2016, the finances, and plans for 2017. It's important that as many members as possible come. If you cannot come, please email Ozlem ( so you can send us your request for a Proxy Vote, so your vote can count!

The ICC Journal
TLC (Training Language and Culture) Issue 1, the ICC’s flagship academic journal came out in February and we are keen to feature your articles, news, reviews and correspondence in Issue 2, out in May.

If you haven’t seen a copy yet, please let me know, and I’ll email it to you.

If you’d like to write for TLC and push yourself up the publishing ladder with articles of up to 6000 words, let me know immediately and we’ll be delighted to peer review it with a view to publication in TLC in May or September.

Comoviwo (Communication for Mobile and Virtual Work)

The Comoviwo project is entering its final stages and has completed drafts and first revisions of the materials. The project team is now opening these materials up for wider review. ICC has a link open to all members and interested parties. You can view the materials by following these instructions:
  • Go to the Canvas platform:
  • Login – the button is found in the right top corner

  • Go to the course 'Communication in Virtual and Mobile work'
  • Choose 'Settings' and then 'Student View'.

BVV English Day

The Bayerischer Volkshochschulverband is holding an exciting one-day conference and exhibition on July 1, 2017 in Augsburg.
Speakers include David Crystal, Pete Sharma, Astrid Krake, Ian McMaster and many others in an action-packed day.
