Special Announcement:  Infant Rooms 119 & 120

We are happy to announce that The Virginia Marx Children's Center is the first center in Westchester County to attain the Freedom of Movement Certification.  This certifies that our infant rooms avoid use of the physical containment and  restraints of traditional childcare settings.
This freedom of movement allows infants to encounter obstacles they might not normally experience. "As opposed to putting a child in a contained area like a walker, our children have access to anything in the classroom that they can crawl to," said Susan Zucker, Director of The Virginia Marx Children's Center.
"We are really proud to be the first children's center to earn the Freedom of Movement Certification in Westchester,” said Susan. “We think the way we go about teaching our children will have a very positive impact on them in the future." The certification was awarded by the Child Care Council of Westchester. Thank you very much to Rita Dunnings, Helen Walters and all of the infant teachers for spearheading this certification.
Spotlight:  Toddler Rooms 107 & 108
To start off the school year, the children in Room 107 have been working with the book "Chicka, Chicka, Boom, Boom."  They have been familiarizing themselves with letters and playing with alphabet manipulatives in the classroom.  Soon, they will be starting their "All About Me" curriculum.  During "All About Me" a child will be featured each week in the classroom. The rest of the class will learn all about his or her favorite activities and interests.  Please look for an upcoming newsletter for Toddler Room 107 to hear more.
The children in Toddler Room 108 are learning all about the animals that live on a farm. The children were so excited to see all the farm items and pictures in their classroom.  Each week they will be focusing on an animal.  The children will have the chance to explore the animals' physical appearance and sounds through books, games, music and cooking.
Preschool Rooms 105, 121 & 122
Classroom 121 is welcoming so many new faces this semester!  The children and teachers are talking about and collecting fall leaves.  Building with blocks and magna-tiles continues to be a big interest in Room 121.  Currently the children are building garages for toy cars and for animals.

In Room 105, the children are also exploring fall leaves and all the wonderful colors.  They are watching the changing colors of the leaves and using paint to replicate the colors.

In Room 122, the children are getting to know each other by working on a new "Friendship" study.  They are discussing how to be friends with people and what friends do and don't do.
