Infant Rooms 119 & 120:
This spring the infants in Rooms 119 & 120 participated in a variety of art activities.  To begin the Art Show projects, both infant classrooms looked at the book “Look, Look!” by Peter Linenthal.  Inspired by the book, the teachers created art activities for the infants with contrasts like white or red paint on black backgrounds or black paint on white backgrounds.  In addition to planning color contrasts that would be easy for babies to see, the teachers provided a variety of textures to explore and provided activities that could be done with hands or with feet.
Toddler Rooms 107 & 108:
Our toddler classrooms participated in the 2016 Art Show contributing groups works and individual works based on their careful readings of "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" by Eric Carle and books by Leo Leonni "Little Blue and Little Yellow" and "Pezzitino."  They learned about colors and participated in a variety of hands-on activities like the creation of their own "Brown Bear" books and individual art works done with paint on canvas, paint on paper, paper and glue collages and more.

The toddler rooms ended the spring semester with a few special events:  a visit from a dental hygienist and a special visit from the WCC Maintenance Department to see construction vehicles.
Preschool Rooms 105, 121 & 122
The preschool rooms prepared for the Art Show in a variety of ways, while always making use of the children's emerging interests.  They were also inspired by books read in the classroom. The art they created was beautiful!
The preschool rooms closed out the spring semester with an exciting visit from a dental hygienist and another visit from  the vehicles from the WCC maintenance department.
We were so excited to open our 11th Annual Children's Center Art Show:  Inspired by Storytelling, on Thursday, June 16, 2016.  Current and alumni families, along with friends of VMCC joined our staff and new WCC vice president and dean, Sara Tweedy, for a wonderful opening night reception.  Please visit the gallery during the following hours through July 14th:

All exhibitions are free & open to the public.

Additions to our menu!
Some of you may have noticed some exciting new dishes and foods on our menu!  After Preschool Rooms 105 & 121 participated in a nutrition curriculum of tasting many new foods, we decided to add those favorites to our menu.  We are putting more fresh fruits and vegetables into the mix of our weekly menu (and using less canned fruit and veggies).  You will notice a wider variety of  fruits including honeydew, watermelon, blueberries and new recipes for vegetables like sweet potatoes and cauliflower.  We are also happy to be purchasing freshly made pasta from Trotta Foods nearby in Thornwood.  If your child has a favorite fruit or vegetable, please let us know and we will try to include it in our menu.
