Merry Christmas from the Snapping Kiwi!

Season’s greetings! It’s hard to believe, the end of another year! Let me start by thanking my clients for the myriad of interesting, exciting and, at times, challenging assignments you’ve given me throughout 2015.

It’s been an interesting and thoroughly enjoyable year, and I’ve been delighted to add new clients to my portfolio. As we get ready for the festive period, I’d like to share some highlights from recent photographic assignments.

Party Time!

The large parties and gala evenings I cover are often accompanied by impressive entertainment, and clients expect this to be reflected in spectacular images. In these shots I captured the movement and atmosphere of a samba dancer, while the Cirque Éloize image was shot with a long lens from the back of the venue and appeared on the front cover of the next day’s TFWA Daily in Cannes.

Dubai Airshow

Tourism, PR, event and lifestyle shoots have been a mainstay of my work this year. I started working with a third publisher specialising in daily publications at major events, this time at the Dubai Airshow – a leading event for the global aviation industry. Working on dailies provides some of the most exhilarating and challenging projects. The images need to be animated and interesting, with minimal disruption.

Tourism and lifestyle

My portfolio of tourism and lifestyle photography is ever-growing. I’m shooting more and more imagery for designers producing prospectuses for educational establishments, and along with my regular trips to Wales I have had the pleasure of photographing a little closer to home in Surrey.
I really was spoilt for choice at a recent shoot for Kusan hats. The studio we hired was a cleverly-designed, derelict three-storey Victorian property, with distressed furniture and patchy walls providing a multitude of evocative backdrops.
Meanwhile, BaseballSoftballUK (BSUK) commissioned me throughout the summer to shoot various styles of baseball and softball at different levels of the games. It was a sociable, fun assignment, which I aimed to capture through a diverse mix of action and candid shots.

Technique

As a photographer, you often receive privileged access to sports events, allowing a clear view of the action. But even without this, it’s possible to produce interesting pictures. I purposely framed this shot with spectators to give the viewer a real sense of being at a race. Blurring the spectators leads your eye to centre of the action.

Happy New Year!

It has been a great year and I’m looking forward to the road ahead, with more exciting assignments at home and internationally in 2016 to put your brand, organisation or event in the picture!

Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any queries, requests, or bookings and, of course, please forward this e-zine to your friends or colleagues who you feel may be interested in my services.

Happy holidays!
