Lewis & Clark College at NIRMAN
NIRMAN runs an International Education (study abroad) program with courses for undergraduates and beyond. In September and October this year, we hosted thirteen students from Lewis & Clark College, Portland, USA. Their program aimed to provide the students with insights on a modern and globalising India through the lens of the complex city of Varanasi. Along with lectures on topics like caste, class, religion, education, and modernity, the students visited weavers in Madanpura, the Ramlila of Ramnagar, the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies, and met a village pradhan (head) and faculty members at BHU.

A NIRMAN Art Project
in collaboration with ‘Artistry of Women’
One of NIRMAN’s main areas of focus is in the development and patronage of the arts. We invite professionals and students to work with us towards the creation of new products and forms that are rooted in our history and tradition, but are a reflection of our education, thoughts, and the world we live in today. This October, Snehlata ji (a parent) and her group ‘Artistry of Women’ created beautiful artwork on our school walls. They incorporated Warli painting and the style of Raza in abstract form.

Aikido Classes by Sensei Paolo Salvadego
NIRMAN started an Aikido dojo in 2018, after two international seminars in 2012 and 2014. This year, we welcome Sensei Paolo Salvadego, 8th dan, from Italy, accompanied by Sanjukta Roy, 1st dan, from Kolkata. Our class 7 to 10 students have started regular Aikido classes, and an evening class is open to all. We will be hosting an international seminar in December of this year - stay tuned for more information!
Aikido is a Japanese martial art form that focuses not on the aggressive nature of war and combat but on the relationship between mind and body that can lead to self-actualisation. The educational potential of Aikido is a lot, as are its implications on a practitioner's daily life. Visit our blog to read what Sensei Paolo has to say about his stay at NIRMAN, teaching Aikido.

SOLAR POWERED EDUCATION
Our readers must be aware that one of our main aims is to teach citizens to take ownership of their immediate environment and to live in harmony with nature. Our latest initiative is the solar panels that we have installed in our campus, which is currently taking care of about half of our electricity needs. The skyrocketing cost of the municipal electricity had made this all the more important.
Please consider a donation toward our solar panels by clicking here!
