I hear the train a comin'
It's rollin'  round the bend,
And I ain't seen the sunshine
Since, I don't know when
I'm stuck on Highway 19
And time keeps draggin' on
But that train keeps a-rollin'
On down to Parksville Museum

Yes, it’s true! The model trains and their train people came and came and came to our Museum on Friday, and Saturday - August 17th and 18th . Congratulations and a big THANKYOU on a job well done to everyone who stepped up to help plan and pull off the successful Parksville Museum's 1st Annual RAILWAY DAYS!!..... from the set-up /take-down crews, gate keepers, errand runners, the cooks, to the music track and  THRIFTY Foods who provided those delectable Hotdogs (yes, the same served at BC Place).

We could not have done it without the support of our local Train enthusiasts:

Jim Bennett of the Oceanside Model Railroaders;  Angus Colter and Paul from  the Vancouver Island Garden Railway Club; Steve Stark for coming out with train samples and photos of his incredible  large model E&N line which resides at his home (too large to bring); Alan Migneault from the E & N Division of the Canadian Railway Historical Association for bringing  historical train artifacts which complimented the Museum's own E&N exhibit panels. RAILWAY DAYS will be chugging down the tracks again next Summer with even more train set-ups and exhibits, brimming with train enthusiasm once again!!

The British Columbia Societies Act came into effect November 28, 2016 and governs how societies (not-for-profit corporations) are created and run in B.C. The Act includes significant updates to allow for more flexibility in how societies operate, while still protecting the public interest. Societies incorporated in B.C. prior to November 28, 2016, have two years (until November 28, 2018) to transition. That includes us! Fortunately, PDHS volunteer, Susan Wismer has worked closely with the Board to ensure that PDHS transitions within the specified time frame. Thank you, Susan

Mark your calendar; there will be a special meeting at 2PM, Saturday, September 29th to vote on the proposed changes as outlined in BC Societies Act.

You saw it here first! On September 7th, Kenna Smith has a book launch party and book signing ( AND  Debbie Flynn  has a Smartphone photography course on Sept 17th ( And Quinton Foote’s movie,  Denouement, filmed on location here (!) will have its premiere showing 5:30PM, Saturday, September 8, 2018 Bowen Park Auditorium, 500 Bowen Road, Nanaimo.

Welcome to our two new directors: Betty Price and Ron Woodward. Betty comes to us with a background in policy making and Ron’s interest and experience is  in Fundraising and Education. Thank you for joining our Board.

This 106 year old beauty continues to create interest and revenue for the PDHS. In September, three weddings will occur within her hallowed walls. Continue to share with your friends and family that our Church is available for weddings, memorials, commitment ceremonies – the list goes on.
