We are excited to offer two training sessions in a revised format for 2016:

July 21-28 and September 22-29.
These training sessions will be six days (Thursday, Friday and Monday-Thursday) from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
In those six days we will cover all of the classroom requirements of tutor training.  The classroom portion of the training is followed by a six lesson practicum
(2 lessons per week for 3 weeks)
working with your Augustine student alongside an experienced mentor tutor.  You will then continue tutoring that child for the remainder of the school year.  If you participate in the summer training session, there will be a few weeks between the classroom and practicum sections of the training.  The Project provides $300 worth of materials to facilitate your lessons, and you are responsible for that cost.  All other training costs are covered by the Augustine Project.

It's a Great Day in South Carolina!

H. 5024, a joint resolution "TO REQUIRE THAT BEFORE THE 2016-2017 SCHOOL YEAR, THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION SHALL PROVIDE ALL READING/LITERACY COACHES AND LITERACY TEACHERS WITH TRAINING ON DYSLEXIA, INCLUDING EVIDENCE-BASED DYSLEXIA SCREENING, INSTRUCTION METHODS AND INTERVENTIONS, AND TO IMPOSE RELATED REPORTING REQUIREMENTS ON THE DEPARTMENT," passed the House Education and Public Works sub-committee (8-0), and full House Education and Public Works committee 15-0. The next journey for the joint resolution is the House floor for vote in a few weeks (majority vote is needed).  After the anticipated majority vote, it moves onto a Senate sub-committee, the full Senate committee, then a Senate vote!  This is a truly an amazing day for dyslexics. 
The ball is definitely rolling!
