Phoneme recognition went up 1.2 grade levels

Phoneme manipulation improved 17.10%

Word Attack:
Decoding skills improved 1.23 grade levels

Job Well Done ....
but more work needs to be done!
Give to ALP

With growth comes demand and ALP is growing.  Our modest budget survives on the generous donations of loyal supporters who believe that the education of one child can make a difference in the direction of a life, a family, a community, a society and a nation.  We need your contributions to continue to train motivated volunteers who commit to the task of instructing children grades 1-3 for a minimum of two years.  Your donation goes directly into the program to purchase training materials or decodable reading books for the student.

Greenville Schools put plans in place to prevent struggling readers from repeating the third grade.  In 2016, only 44 percent of third-graders met or exceeded standards in English Language Arts on the SC READY test, South Carolina's statewide assessment.  With that, up to 227 Greenville County students would have potentially been retained based on their test scores if the law had be in effect at the end of 2016-2017.  ALP is working to build relationships with other community based programs like Public Education Partners of Greenville County, Greenville First Steps and Read Greenville to aid in the battle against illiteracy.
ALP is proud to be recognized and approved by Thrivent Financial Services as a worthy charitable organization eligible to qualify for Thrivent Action Team status and receive Thrivent Choice dollars as directed by standing members.  Thrivent Financial Sponsored two Action Teams this year.  One was the opening day lunch and training materials for our second training session (pictured above) and the second was the purchase of 14 sets (42 books) of "Read, Yes, I Can" decodable reading books (pictured below) by Deborah Watkins to kick off the 2017 school year Tutor Talk!

Summer 2017 hosted two successful training classes that launches 18 new tutors into the coming school year!
