Issue No. 5: 21 December 2018

Welcome to the Delta 8.7 Newsletter!

This month we are talking about an upcoming event, our first symposium that brought together experts to discuss the benefits and limitations of modelling the risk of modern slavery, and 25 new country data dashboards.

You can also read this newsletter in French and Spanish.
We are pleased to invite you to Code 8.7, a 2-day conference where key stakeholders discuss how computational science, AI and machine learning can accelerate our understanding of what works to fight modern slavery.

The conference will combine policy and practical problem-solving sessions, including:

  • Opportunity showcases with presentations on emerging uses of computational science and AI to address modern slavery;
  • Mini-hothouses to brainstorm joint problem-solving approaches; and
  • Plenary and panel discussions.

We kicked off our first symposium series where experts discuss their research and receive commentary from the wider research and anti-slavery community.
In this first symposium, Pablo Diego-Rosell (Gallup), and Jacqueline Joudo-Larsen (Walk Free Foundation) discuss their innovative methodology for modelling the risk of modern slavery.

Four other data science experts—Laura Gauer Bermudez and Shannon Stewart from the Global Fund to End Modern Slavery, Bernard Silverman from the University of Nottingham and Kelly Gleason from Delta 8.7—discuss the benefits and limitations of their approach.
