  • comb or brush
  • face washer

Breaking the Cycle - Malcolm Leslie's epic bike ride

In October, our regular Friday volunteer, Malcolm Leslie, rode his bicycle 4,000 kilometres across Australia together with his friends - Johnathon and Gavin Drury - to raise awareness of the issues of homelessness in Australia and also to raise money for the EMC.

Malcolm used the MyCause website to accept donations and the final total was an amazing $28,900! The money raised will be used to fund a new cooking program for the EMC called "Recipes for Success".

Staff, guests and volunteers at the EMC welcomed Malcolm and Johnathon back with a sausage sizzle and a special thank you cake.

Take the challenge - fundraise for the EMC

Are you planning to do something different in 2019? Perhaps you are hoping to undertake an endurance activity such as going a month without chocolate, running a marathon, walking the Kokoda trail, swimming the English Channel or climbing a high mountain.

You can easily turn your action plans into a fundraiser for the EMC by using a fundraising website such as MyCause. If you have any ideas, we would love to talk to you.

Naloxone Overdose Response Workshop

Naloxone Overdose Response
The team from Canberra Alliance for Harm Minimisation and Advocacy (CAHMA) attended the EMC to deliver a Naloxone Overdose Response Workshop on Tuesday, 9 October with 12 guests attending.

The workshop covered opioid overdose risk factors, how to spot an overdose and how to respond, including how to administer CPR and Naloxone. Each attendee received an overdose response kit.

CAHMA also attends the EMC weekly on Wednesdays to provide Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) information and case management.

A Defibrillator for the EMC

We are very grateful that, after hearing of a recent health incident at the EMC, one of our Ambassadors, Debbie Rolfe, and her husband Richard have donated a defibrillator to the EMC.

We are hoping that we will never need to use it but it will be reassuring to know that it is available if necessary.

Thanks to Debbie and Richard for their ongoing support of the EMC.
