The Early Morning Centre - UnitingCare Canberra City

Despite the ongoing cases of COVID in the Canberra community, the EMC remains open seven days a week in a safe and modified form. Breakfast and other food is being provided as takeaway only, and being served through the door. Guests can access essential services such as showers and computers. Face masks are mandatory to enter the centre and there is a supply of face masks for guests.

We are looking forward to restrictions easing further and have been pleased to welcome back our hairdresser. There's nothing like a good haircut to make you feel better about yourself. More services should follow soon.

Christmas party - donations requested

The EMC will again welcome guests to our annual Christmas party in December. Hampers are being generously provided by members of Helping ACT and the Egyptian Coptic Church, however we are asking for donations of $20 gift cards from Woolworths or Coles so our guests can choose a little extra for themselves.

Please leave any gift cards with staff at the EMC or with the office at Canberra City Uniting Church (69 Northbourne Avenue).

Vaccination clinics

The EMC is extremely grateful to both the Interchange Health Co-operative Tuggeranong and ACT Health for the COVID-19 vaccination clinics. The vaccination clinics were a great success with a total of 340 vaccinations given.

It was a delight to work with the dedicated team of health professionals who provided a friendly and easily accessible service to EMC guests. We now have an extremely high rate of vaccinations amongst our guests which is thanks to the wonderful effort put in by all involved.

Pets in the Park is back

Pets in the Park was able to recommence in November, and as usual it was very popular, even on a cool and damp day. According to reports there were 17 excited dogs and 9 not so excited cats.

Pets are important companions for many of our guests, especially during times of difficulty and uncertainty as in the last 18 months. Our thanks to the skilled volunteers who make this service possible.
