2018-2021 Business Plan

Fresh fruit salad for breakfast at the Early Morning Centre
In April the EMC Management Committee was proud to sign off on its Business Plan for 2018-2021.

Our consultant, Mia Swainson, met with guests, staff, volunteers, Friends and many organisations in the sector to ensure that the plan is achievable and meets everyone's needs and expectations, particularly those of our guests.

By July 2020 the EMC is expected to have the capacity to support 100 guests every weekday morning.

Mia said that it had been a pleasure to work with an organisation like the EMC that is highly regarded by all stakeholder groups, including guests, staff, volunteers, other organisations in the sector and government.

Homeless Connect

Homeless Connect Canberra - The Early Morning Centre
On Wednesday, 8 August, during Homelessness Week, the EMC and adjacent rooms of the Pilgrim House Conference Centre will be used to host Homeless Connect.

Homeless Connect is based on a one-stop-shop model of service provision to people who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of experiencing homelessness. Business and community groups will be brought together for one day to provide a wide range of free services.

End of Financial Year appeal

Early Morning Centre End of Financial Year Appeal
This financial year the EMC has been able to extend its opening hours, employ two more part-time staff members and provide more services because of financial support from our Friends of the EMC and an increased grant from the ACT Government.

With an ambitious Business Plan to guide our next few years, your ongoing financial support is crucial. The end of the financial year is fast approaching and donations to the EMC are tax deductible.

You can donate online via the Hands Across Canberra website

Alternatively, you can make a donation directly to our bank account:

Account name: UnitingCare Canberra City
BSB: 634 634

Reference: Please include your surname as the reference

Thank you for your support.

Strong community recognition and support are seen as positives when negotiating future government funding. Having more Friends will help with finances and allow our services to be expanded. It will also ensure we maintain a robust volunteer community.

Jazz in the Garden

Geoff Page and his charity jazz band performing at the EMC Autumn fundraiser
Our Autumn fundraiser ''Jazz in the Garden'' was held on a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon in April and it was a great success.

We raised over $1,600 to support the new services at the EMC. Geoff Page and his charity jazz band entertained everyone for two hours with a break for a delicious afternoon tea.

Our thanks to Donna Stewart for again allowing us to enjoy her beautiful garden and also to Geoff Page and his fellow musicians.
