Barton Creek Greenway Native Plant Meadow Maintenance
Volunteer weeders needed Saturday Aug. 14!
Help us rescue our newly planted native plants from the vigorous weeds at Barton Creek Greenway. Volunteers from the Southern Piedmont Chapter and UNC Charlotte Botanical Garden installed this native plant meadow back in April, and it’s thriving but so are the weeds. Join us for a few hours of weeding and NCNPS camaraderie.
Volunteer work includes weed removal and mulching around native plants that were installed AND ARE THRIVING! This is an event for adults and teens (accompanied by legal adult guardian only). Bring your own personal gloves, trowel, kneeling pads, sunscreen, bug spray and comfortable gardening attire (the site is not "overgrown" so you may be comfortable in shorts if you prefer). Please review the time slot below and click on the button to sign up. Plan to park in one of the large parking lots at Shoppes at University Place. Mecklenburg County owns the greenway so you will be asked to sign a standard liabilty waiver at the beginning of the session. Thank you!
Charlotte Wildlife Stewards needs volunteers to man a "pollination station" where kids can make seed balls and learn a little about native plants and pollinators. The event is September 19, 2-5pm at Reedy Creek Park. The goal is to have hands-on learning and FUN.
Charlotte Wildlife Stewards promotes native plants as part of our mission and it would be great to have NCNPS partners in our outreach to kids and the community.
